Canada / US relations and the future.

I would agree with you on most of your points. Canadians that usually winter in the US will continue to do so. Its their choice as it should be but there are many that usually go to the US and don't feel right doing so at this time, its also their choice. We don't need to drop the " tough guy BS". We didn't start this and many Canadians have a sense of pride that affects our spending habits. We ourselves live close to the border, will continue to buy in the US when it suits me. For me it is an easy choice not to buy the Napa valley Cabernet but buy something else. The fact that news that Jim Beam to pause production at its main distillery on Jan. 1 is in part due to the cross border issues. I could go on. By tariffing imports of raw materials the US manufacturing industry is setting themselves up to be uncompetitive on the world stage as somebody will have to eat the tariffs.
There is no way Canada will "win" this anyway. We do need them more than they need us. The reality that the US tariffed the rest of the world to charge for the privilege of doing business with them. I don't accept the idea that somehow Canada was screwing them over. I do think that the old NAFTA / CUSMA will expire and the President will expect some sort of tariff to be paid to do business. History tells us that tariffs are not a good tool in the long run.
I do think that our own Federal Liberal govt has done a piss poor job of looking after trade issues, beyond wanting to protect supply management. Supply management has done nothing to save the number of farms under quota. They continue to shrink in number and grow in size, holding quota value that is immense.
I think this has been a huge wake up call for Canada to get rolling and "Do something". India and China are the two largest populations in the world and during Trudeau's time for sure relations went very badly. I think its gonna be a moving target to get any kind of reasonable US NAFTA deal so it will be way easier to work with the rest of the world very much in the same predicament. Eventually something will be figured out but I am thinking it will be years out.

Instead of giving Ukraine $35 Billion dollars, some of that could have bought supply management from the dairy farmers, our dairy also would be much cheaper without it.

Most labor costs on imports coming into USA are 1/4 what labor is in USA is so to keep production costs down lots automation in new plants required . This means lots more energy requirements from the neighbor to the north. There not done with us yet.

Europe needs very little from Canada
        They don’t want oil / gas / uranium / grains / oilseeds / pulses / potash

Canada will never have solar panels, wind mills , EV’s to sell too Europe

But the U.S. needs every thing we have in abundance, it’s time for Carney and the Liberals to pull their heads out of the green fantasy clouds they are in

If trump can get his hands on heavy crude from Venezuela he won’t need it from Alberta. That would give him a lot of leverage in the “art of negotiation” with Canada on that 51 state concept.
