    Traders Predict Record Lentil Yields

Marlena Boersch thinks that the lentil crop yielded more than 1300 lb per acre. What have you
    experienced?

Ours were less than 1300 lbs, but hearing lots of 35-40+ bpa south of us on lighter soil that didn't get 13" in August. Also outstanding yields in the Kindersley-Rosetown corridor.

1300 lbs/ac is only 21.6 bu/ac. Is Merchantile consulting balking what traders are predicting or do they think the lentil crop averaged only 1300 lbs/ac?

Sumdumguy, is there a typo in your post? Something doesn't add up

Around here lentils started out looking great but a massive hail storm took out thousands of acres and grade was sample so we and a lot of larger growers around us grew ZIP and this year I didn’t check out the competition. At any rate I guess it doesn’t help when we blast enormous yield estimates and post it in the farm papers. Just sayin.

We have to be aware of backyarditis, Western Canada is vast, the crop may not be as big as thought but may very well be larger than average.

Re papers, I bet more market price damage is done by chest beating social media zealots posting videos and pictures of massive crops. I was made aware that traders and end use buyers are seeing that stuff and reporting it back to market newsletter providers!

If growers have an excellent crop, can't they quietly and anonymously go about their business? Celebrate it amongst themselves and close friends, the world doesn't need to know or hear and see it from the source. There are enough methods for the trade to try and determine crop size without farmers verifying the results on social media for the world to see.

Much like export sales reporting , Marlene gets paid to speak on both sides of the topic.

one day she is against export sales and gets paid to say it by your check off money. Now they pay her to say the opposite.

If she has the data to back up her yield claims , it would be helpful that she provides the transparency, because much like statscan , by next august there could be a shortage.

yup. The special areas had ALOT of fields pushing 2.5-3x long term average, if not 3.5-4...

things very seriously connected around here this year.

Lentil yields were good , healthy stands made heavy seed .
Is what it is , admitting a big crop after the fact just reality .
I despise when the “market” calls for record crops before July , or in some cases before the crop even in the ground , that is intentionally misleading markets

This lentil crop is easily 1600-1800 lbs. 1400 is way way too low.

                  No hiding this one.
