    Anyone using a grain broker?

Just got of the phone with a major grain broker, best he could do was 50-75 cents a bushel lower on barley than local terminals. Wtf? Why bother calling? Of course he wants the best of the best quality wise.

Johnson grain got.me.12 picked up in yard for.10% heated canola in August. Local bids at.yorkton crusher or.milligan was only 7 delivered. So I guess it.depends on what commodities are offered.

Yes. I would say like everything, sometimes they are better sometimes they aren't.

Gotta check all options to know.

Sorry i meant the broker that called me. Why phone people with such insulting offers, if the terminals are offering 4.75 -5.00 no i am not taking 4.25.

Some Brokers could care less, some only want to facilitate the deal to collect their commission. I don't think it makes any difference to them if you get $4 or $5 for your barley.

No different that equipment or car salesmen gotta start somewhere. Throw your price out there and who knows they might call back. I have been surprised a few times.

Often times they can find movement when maybe your locals are plugged. Maybe the price isnt better but often its FOB farm and that's worth a least a dime or two. They provide a service imo, either make a dozen calls or pick up the phone once. A good broker will run samples, folllow up and ensure the buyer is picking up as per the terms of the contract and handle any issues.

I assure you they know the market better than you or I, thats all they do and like all trades there are good ones and poor ones.

Always make sure the buyer is CGC bonded.

Used to deal with Johnsons, they were fine to deal with but I had 2 scares where payment was supposed to be made within 6 days and I ended up waiting multiple months to be paid. Not a good feeling when you keep getting told the cheque is in the mail and another month goes by......
