    Carney and Xi

Carney has meeting with Xi and has come up with a lecture for them about green energy and other rainbow ideas. Least he got an invite to China to spend some more of your hard earned money. Talk about a waisted opportunity to fix the canola issues. He could give a truck about the west.

The last thing I would do normally is defend the Liberals but the details of the meeting sound far more constructive toward getting a resolution than anything recent. Carney accepting an invite to China compared to 2022 when Xi scolded JT publicly at the G20 meeting is a price example of how far things have come.

According to readouts, the two leaders directed their officials to resolve outstanding trade issues and irritants. Specifically mentioning agriculture products such as canola as well as seafood and EV's.

The market had rallied ahead of the meeting and is lower following but that may have simply been short covering in case tariffs were actually rolled back during the meeting. The selling could be simply a reaction to the lack of specifics, but that doesn't mean progress wasn't made.

A more important example of what an IQ upgrade can mean - according to the readout, during the meeting Carney made no references to China's human rights record or foreign interference.

It sounds like the last time the two met was in 2016 when China hosted the G20 summit and Carney was the governor of the Bank of England. (Suggesting he may have gone into this meeting with a little more respect from Xi to begin with).

Again, not political, just hoping it's all steps in the right direction.

Does China take any Canadian beef?

China is still using BSE as a non tariff barrier.

They are the largest beef importer, about 75% coming from Brazil, Argentina, and Uruguay. Oz and NZ do most of the rest, so cheaper grass fed for 90% of imports.
They used to add value by taking lots of sea cans of the drop. Tongue, tripe, organ meat, etc.

Probably an identifiable trade irritant besides BSE?

That $193 million would be about 1 feedlot turn at todays prices?
Lots of opportunity to to keep a floor in the lower priced product like canner cows?

          From AI;

"No, China is currently not importing Canadian beef; a ban has been in effect since December 2021. The ban was implemented after a single case of atypical bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) was discovered on an Alberta farm.
          The current status is:
          • Ongoing Ban: Canadian beef exports to mainland China have been halted for several years, with no clear end in sight despite the Canadian government's ongoing engagement efforts.
          • Scientific Disagreement: Canada has provided all requested technical information and argues the atypical BSE case should not affect trade, citing World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) guidelines that classify Canada as a "negligible risk" country. However, China has not provided a scientific justification or timeline for resuming trade.
          • Previous Trade: Prior to the ban, China was a significant and growing market for Canadian beef, at one point the third-largest, with annual exports valued around $193 million."

Carney says it will take some time before China lifts tarrifs?
probably a election announcement if needed.

It’s infuriating the damage that’s been done to our ag trading partners the past decade.
1/2 the worlds population essentially locked out of Canadian Ag due to virtue signalling, it’s crazy

We have a trade deal with Europe.
They appear to buy less than China, as Hong Cong and Macau are China.
But they are being presented as our hope for replacing the USA.
The scary part is possibly a majority of Canadians believe.

It’ll be interesting if judges rule that Trump’s tariffs are illegal.
