2025 Canola Harvest: Oil Leaks, Tough Straw & Weather Challenges

Harvest 2025 hasn’t been easy for some so far. From equipment oil leaks and tough, tangled canola straw to warning alarms and stormy weather, this season is testing both machines and farmers. Ride along in the field as we tackle the challenges and push through another tough harvest.?

Wow, IMO that amount of straw behind, crop is RAW or chopper is non existent.

Nice to see/hear a small farm though, 90% are HUGE operations around us.

Almost ZERO one combine farms besides us. Good luck!

Couple of canola fields that were swathed on my way to town are black from the rain but now the regrowth is poking thru . It will hard to get that stuff dry now even with good weather. Still calling for a few more wet days we are not dealing with mud like some guys but it's getting close.

Busy running gates coulter harrow on canola stubble where canola got hailed. Doing the acres that hailed , millions of pods on the ground to deal with now before spring otherwise it will be a nightmare for weed control before and after seeding
running same direction as seed rows, coulters in 1.5 in to cut pods and turn some soil while leaving 80/90% of the stubble standing for snow catch
kinda unorthodox but it’s working very well
doing 100 / ac per hour while our other canola still 12.2 moisture
Cant leave it or it will be a mess come spring

Its a strange feeling to want rain during harvest..

Found a beer under the seat. Going to slam it ( its almost noon so.. close enough) and forget any thoughts of rain!

Thought it was a farmer forum, passing on day to day farm activies.

You calling them all out for that?

Have you done a bushel weight on your canola? I am hoping to have time this morning. I did hear of farmers adding water as they bin their canola. Seems risky. Last year our canola was dry but still had good bushel weights. More pods in it this year though as hard to separate. Really I am just thankful with what’s in the bin considering it seemed like a relatively dry year.
