Good morning, how come the months of August sept and October fly by and then the dressed Canadian winter takes forever to end.
Not a good harvest week as eastern Sask and Manitoba get fog, rains and hail.
Up to 5 inches in places and wiped out hail. No Kevin the crops aren't getting bigger. More rain in August and September than all of the growing season.
We had over a inch of slow soaking rain and then almost a full fog day.
Doug Ford says keep the EV tariffs and screw western farmers. You know what will happen? And we wont get a dime protecting eastern interests. But the federal deficit will be north 100 billion. We are not the same.
Crop report
Peas and lentils are done, good yields, shitty prices.
Oats harvest, the early seeded is done and yielded ok, later if in swaths doesn't look great now.
Flax harvest isn't started butbyields will be down.
Barley harvest is almost all done good yields on early seeded and quality, later not as good. Green feed still growing. Frost was mild a few weeks ago.
Corn didn't like the low temps from a few weeks ago.
HRS MOST ARE EITHER JUST FINISHING OR 1/4 left. Most is later month seeded so rain will just take colour. Yields keep getting better the farther away from may 3 seeding date. Pig shit field looks rad. Just sprayed last Friday. Yields are now approaching a normal year. Early seeded weren't great.
Durum is just about done, early graded Good but I think the rules changed because what under the cwb I would of had a three is now a one. How much money did we lose all those years? Yields ok.
Canola most has been sprayed or swath for a week some early two weeks ago or longer. We started first seeded field yesterday. Its ok but below my 5 year average by 12%. It is on some of our poorer dirt and only had barely 4 inches all growing season in tenths.
I'm still assessing yields but will be revising my production number after a week of harvest in eastern Sask. Cooler smoky summer made pods but ugly areas still produced some.
Pastures are greening up and the rain was welcomed.
Last cuts are done and some older fields are getting sprayed out.
So harvest is at 45% but the clock is now ticking as its that time of year a cold wet front and rain could be the white stuff real quick.
Let us know your area and stay safe.
