Hard to put the numbers on it. What is the total value of this canola crop. If north of highway 16 was a lot better where would the price be. If there were no tariffs where the price be. China is the master manipulator on price of grain. As far as tax payers. They are screwed, cost money to learn. Vote in some one that wants to destroy a county for their own gain.

My farm is not enrolled in any provincial or federal Ag Safety net program nor have I participate in any farm survey, so if a Ag Direct Payment were to be made my farm could qualify for a reasonable sized cheque.
You can connect the dots.
Question, if China decides to place tariffs on Canadian grown canola every summer going forward for whatever reason they decide upon, should an Ag Direct Payment be sent yearly to canola growers?
What will China tarriff next, Forage seed production Farrow," how many forage seed acres do you have in for 2025"?

If the forage seed industry gets as punished as the canola industry by very poor policy from the federal government then by all means

So peas should get a subsidy every yr when india puts tariffs on?
No spanks.
Its funny that, as farmers, we MOSTLY vote to the right... as in conservative. Hence, pierre's CLOSE win ( snickers) .
Yet, voting on the right generally is voting against things like... universal dentalcare/ healthcare, welfare programs.. etc. BUT here some of us are.. asking for a govt handout.. or... a welfare cheque.
Also. Lets not forget that every single conservatove premier was ALL FOR the ev tariffs.... but now cries foul when china reacts how we knew they would ( bcuz they do it all the bloody time). Then .. all the farmers blame the liberals... its just awesome how the human brain works.
Look. It sucks what happened. But it happens all the time. Even allllll the way back to 2009 when china put restrictions on our canola.... they will do what they do regardless of what govt we have in power.
Our trade minister yesterday said that they willl NOT drop any tariffs without some guarantees that this wont happen again ( which is the correct avenue to take) before possibly igniting a further feud with our friendly neighbour to the south.... one who buys more grain and canola than china.
You cant get 2 birds stoned at once...
Especially when youre neither bird..but rather, the stone.
Also. Its a valid point brought up earlier when canola values were well below where they are now... yet we all still planted a butt ton of canola. The dumping inquiry was going to come to a head eventually..so it shouldnt be a surprise that they decided to lay out their cards right before harvest. The tea leaves werent exactly difficult to read on this one... thus, pre selling canola at a 52 yr high for this fall wouldve been a prudent move. I dont expect tax payers to cover my marketing error, when a yr ago we all championed the EV tariffs knowing full well what china is capable of... because...
THEY DO IT ALL THE TIME.

Seriously, this is not a hand out ffs
So every other industry gets help over tariffs but in ag we just must suck it up and take the losses one after the other eh ?

I honestly do not believe that people don't know how much farmers have lost due to political incompetence.
This is a shorter canola crop than last year and the price has dropped. experts cant figure out why exports dropped, maybe because the canola pipeline back to the farm gate is empty.

As long as every other industry in eastern Canada including SM get bailout but ag in western Canada get the shaft so your neighbour do get a dime more than you ever even it don’t effect you that’s ok
Got it , we’re fuked with that mentality just sayin
Good luck all, signing out have a hopefully good enough harvest pay bills

What a sad state of socialist thinking when all canola and pulse producers just took a more direct hit than a handful of the Canadian EV industry,
But hey sleep well that no one get SFA .
great thinking , gets all of us in Ag primary production zero
well done !!

Every industry in Eastern Canada looked after , all fine, farmers god forbid your neighbour get $1 more than you and then turn this situation into a circus to boot
