Where has July gone, Ag in Motion will be over today and we enter the last two weeks of July.
I hate to say this guys we need heat to push this crop now rain is just a delay.
Cool temps this week in NW, Roaetown and Foamlake areas. Today is also a cold morning.
China is making a desk with Australia for Canola and Carney has done nothing in Canada. I am not surprised by this Liberals are liars and can't be trusted.
Oh drives around Sask the last two weeks has shown me crops all around are variable. Drought or lack of moisture has hurt alot of the potential and a handfull number of areas with decent isn't going to cut it. Its a average at best except lentils yield could be huge. Flax could also be in that category.
Crop report.
Hrs and Durum are looking good at 110 km but once you enter and can see rows any one with a brain can see massive crops aren't in the cards.
Some areas are shit then great and awesome but for the most part that's better for some than last year and way worse for others this year. Leaf mass and head Suze tells the tale and June dry wrote the book.
We won't hit the massive like two years ago more like last years crop if it fills well.
Flax looks good full flower and some very thick and some sick.
Oats look good in some areasthen not doing well in others.
Barley now the early is filling will be ok no massive or bumper later looks ok if you got the rains but really late could have fall issues.
Peas are all over the map on the drive to Saskatoon we had to stop to figure out what was growing kochia or peas.
Lentils like a year like this deep rooted and filling if kept healthy doing real well. But showers and more spits could hurt.
Canola I'm going to come out and say is do variable all over after my last three big drives around we will be happy with a average crop overall. Don't let the grain companies fool you its not massive. Its late its variable and they want it for nothing. Last year prices tanked early as the bullshit in the trade was massive Good crop in drought, now the bins are empty.
Usa is helping us with price this year, china is killing us with price.
Right now I see a 19.28 mt crop but if frost hits 14.6 or lower as lots is very late.
To sum up the year so far it was dry way to long and every one you talk to can't believe its either a few good rains between weeks of nothing or you are living on tenths and half inch since spring.
Drive Regina to Pa Lumsden to Davidson is weird and poor no big massive crops north of Regina, nice on light land by Saskatoon.
Have a great day, tell us about your area.
First cut is over and no one will have a second this year.
For our area it will be better than last year but not close to 23.
