I'm not following Goalie's logic here.

Fertilizer is a worldwide market, with prices set on the world market. Canola is a drop in the bucket in the world of grains. That would be the ultimate tail wagging the dog.
One could even argue that high oilseed prices are bearish for fertilizer, since much of the worlds oilseeds don't require nitrogen fertilizer.

Canola was at the same level in 2008 when inputs were but a fraction. Im not following goalieguy. Is mid 14's high?

        As CANOLA GOES....so we go.

Canola value controls EVERYTHING in western Canada.
        Chem prices. Fertilizer prices.
        land rent prices.

we will NOT see sub 800$ urea. Next spring will be 1100 walk up.
Sulphur price has not budged since spring. 640 for fines.
        gRoss.

        phos will be 1300.
get your fertilizer now if u can.

        or grow peas...
Personally I alway felt in North America the price of corn had a greater influence on the price of nitrogen.

High prices cure high prices, Low prices cure low prices.

China apparently going to export a note able amount of urea for first time in a couple years. possibly 3.2 MMT. Good luck guessing what Egypt and Iran will produce, but at high prices they will find a way. Russia will backdoor to somebody until their system falls apart.

Very little incentive to summer fill currently. High fertilizer prices, not terrible grain prices but offside to fert. A little more than 15 years ago, phos was going to 2000, better get it now at 1200, 800 in spring. China Anti dumping probe Sept 9th, might be the low for canola. So many balls in the air now!

Long haul something has to change. There is heartache and misery on the menu.

I understand exactly where you’re coming from Furrow. Guy we deal with in the fert department seems to think Phos will definitely not be dropping any time soon. Just not enuf product for the demand out there. Has nothing to do with crunching the numbers side. Im just gonna bite the bullet at sub 1300 and use only the minimum required amount this coming year. Too many years of below average rainfall getting to me with sub par yields and input dealers still demanding top dollar on their end.

Always compare prices if you can..
we all get a different #..
1st question is always how many tonnes you need?
Like fuel..how many liters will you burn per yr?

Canola is about to take it on the chin yet again with liberal trade disputes with China
will fertilizer drop the goalie ??
according to you logic it could get quite a bit cheaper by fall
