Given the current AAFC maps and current forecast, which farm groups are actually making noise about what is happening because of the dry conditions?

With little subsoil moisture plants just can't move the requirements to grow.
we are at 35c today with a dry west wind at 40kmh . Not conducive to a favourable outcome.
At this point small showers actually seem to act as a desiccant to the crop. Fall cereals are telling the story around here.

I would add, what do you want for your farm? I think the days of ad hock payments the way it was 25 years ago will never return. The powers that be will say Crop insurance , Ag stability, Agri invest, and the private guys like GARS and AGI3 are out there.
On our farm it is very unclear what we will end up with, crop wise. Crop conditions are all over the place. Go a mile in any direction and things are different as some fields caught a extra tenth or two. I get it some places have been an absolute wreck since mid June. I think many farms can salvage something if there is a decent rain but this heat is a yield killer if its dry.

The US is giving farmers money through the ECAP program for the 2024 year.
If you think your farm should burn equity or borrow money while a few hundred miles south your competition is getting help, there isn't a future for farmers in this country.
At this time an adhoc is going to be necessary.
That ECAP payment is affecting the market you price your grain.
And when other industries are given assurances of support, I don't think agriculture should be ignored.Last edited by bucket; Jul 9, 2025, 17:33.

The extreme sad fact is that the only organization in this current governments ear is the NFU 100%
I got laughed at several years ago for pointing that out , but it’s a fact

A whole batch of hobby farmers dictate policy, what could possibly go wrong on the other 99% of acres

Sorry guys. Im not familiar with sask crop insurance but is that not the route you are going to go?
Personally im.comfortable with the insurance covg that we have here in alberta thru afsc.
I guess i dont quite follow what exactly you fellows are looking for.
are we talking about a direct cheque to the farm based on x acres and what crop, similiar to what the US gets?
where would we draw the line on who receives this " top up" subsidy and how does it do anything except raise prices on our costs such as rent/ equipment.. etc. ?
I really dont see how the US farmers receiving this govt subsidy does anything except put them at a disadvantage as now they have artificially inflated land values and rents. It just tightens their margins because everyone knows how much they are getting.
Do we think that anyone we rent land from wouldnt just raise their asking cost by that " insert number here" $/ ac subsidy?
Our market is dictated by what it can bare. Some of you on this site ( canadians) have said that there is land being sold off by investors... so to me... thats capitalism at work. Which is the game that we all play... and it seems... with preferably very little backstop WITH intervention. How do we think the federal govt would dictate and control what our farms do if we were getting 20..30..40$/ ac across the board year after yr from the federal govt?
I understand the DESIRE for the help up in the tough years.. but is this truly something we need?
I FEEL as though the heavy handedness that the govt could wield would be.. unnerving at best. A direct to farm subsidy needs to be approached with the greatest of cautions....
