    2024 net farm income

Have not seen the numbers for Sask in 2024
Also would like to see the breakdown of livestock , mixed and crop farms
my guess is that crop production net income was very dismal

I don't believe agricultural programs in Canada are designed properly. While everyone criticizes the US program, they do seem to help farmers.

By extension they also keep the economy rolling as that money moves through for manufacturing , inputs etc.

Farmers in the US are being paid for the 2024 crop through ECAP and a week ago they announced a billion for drought affected cattle guys.

In Canada we have maps from AAFC that indicate how bad the moisture conditions are but cant correlate the requirement for aid.

Meanwhile Trump says steel auto or dairy and the promise of a program in Canada by the liberals is implemented before the sun sets.

Personally, i feel like direct subsidies would be a mistake. We already are subsidized quite well but payments directly to a farm just for seeding acres would be a mistake.
it would artificially drive up land prices and equipment. Rents as well.

Farmers would just spend the extra dollars helping the economy.
for farmers who want to sell or rent out their land..bonus..
Not everyone wants to expand their operations.

While we are at it, why not break all the windows, just think how great that will be for the economy when they get replaced.

I find it hard to justify government support to producers who are worth far more than the average Canadian will ever be worth. Support has producers acting in ways that can be counter to the business long term, support leads to more support. What happens if support is removed? Government is the worst business partner you can have.

All I can say is the US farmer is your competition. If they are supported by the government for any number of reasons , that affects your farm. The markets are in the USA. Direct payments affect those markets.

If you want to use equity to go against the treasuries of other nations, the writing is on the wall.

While quite noble to say " we / I don't want direct payments " , I think people saying that are a little naive and should not have. role to play in representing farmers.

Don't like direct payments - send the cheque back.

It is important to remember that farmers are expected to find alternative cash flows but you never see a steel or auto worker told that. And they have been sucking the government tit for far more money than agriculture.

Don't forget the dairies are just finishing up their last payment for past trade negotiations .

Was not indicating any support when I started this
I just think the industry thinks we are all doing fantastic, but reality on the ground is far far worse than they think or want to admit in many areas
yes some producers are with more than the average Canadian on paper.
Many Generational private businesses are worth far more than farmers yet no one says a word ….. Brandt , Vaughn Wyatt and hundreds of other just here in Saskatchewan alone .
Does not mean we can’t lose money because things like crop insurance fail after a few years of poor crops . It’s been happening around here for the past year .
Generational farms forced to pack er in before they lose everything they’re worth .
I don’t know any average Canadian that would lose money at their job . No doubt a lot are barely getting by but that’s a result of government induced inflation from massive money printing after Covid .

just curious as to what the net returns from crop producers in 2024 was
