It’s cooling off this week. That will conserve moisture but there’s no substitute for an inch or two of rain. Looks like possibly the end of coming week.

Earliest substantial rain for my forecast is June 11th . That's too unreliable . When we were seeding there were 2 rain events that evaporated so we are at 3 tenths for the month of May.
When all this money is spent on R&D of crops, could they not start figuring the genetics in weeds that allow them to grow in desert like conditions? For instance could they get the genetic pool from kochia?

NE Sask, crop is not made or lost yet...(feels like it is though)
No where is it written that if we suffer drought, that the market has to react in a meaningful way. (1988 case in point)
We grow a large portion of HRS, really only compete with the Dakotas, and Australia. Every where else in the world grows a lot of wheat that can be a substitute. They will blend our 16 protein with their mediocre wheat and make bread.
Canola can have a huge market move, but is always tempered by soy and other oils. I am way undersold as per what I would usually do, and worried about doing more. If rain comes, and have a long fall, canola comes off. Likely should be putting options in play, maybe courage calls to start??
If anything I would hold on to, its Oats. I think acres are flat. If you lose the North half of the province to dry conditions, 160 bushel oats turn into a thin 80 and nobody wants them.
