PetroChina already owns Canadian o&g assets and is JV partner in several nat gas and oilsands projects.

I'd go one step further, since taking countries and pieces of countries is all a rage, I'd encourage China to take back Manchuria and recognize it, if they would lay off Taiwan.

Is some of that territory still under Russian control?
If it is, you mean that area? So Russia would be on the offensive in Western Russia and on the defensive in Eastern Russia. That might spread the military resources a bit. Or do you expect Russia to walk away from that territory like Russia expects Ukraine to do theirs.
China would be a much more formidable opponent than the Ukraine(without support). Gets kinda WW3ish...
Maybe Trump can broker a deal and convince Russia to surrender territory to China without any aggression.

Hypothetically. The more one thinks about it. The more a strong China alliance has merit.
            A lot of pros.

What you say makes a lot of sense. Until about 2022, American foreign policy had been to keep Russia and China apart.
The enemy of my enemy is my friend.

Starting a war against Russia in Ukraine drove Russia right into China's arms. What many foreign policy experts for calling the biggest mistake possible.

Now the world's largest manufacturing Nation with one of the largest militaries, which entirely reliant on imported resources is allied with the world's biggest resource exporter.
              What could go wrong.

China canceled 500million shipment of American beef in March. Russia is planning on ramping up beef production to China. 1.1 billion by the end 2027. High speed rail joins the 2 countrys.
So how does the Canada pension plan get a return on the millions of dollars that it dumped into that high speed rail line?

They call it "The Hotel California effect" .
"You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave".

Like a check valve. The money can only go one way due to sunk costs, regulations, or the perceived advantages of staying in the system, even if it's not ideal.

A bunch of history says Russian Manchuria belongs to China. Only a treaty that took it, begs to differ, and those words can easily be broken in modern history. Just ask the US government, if that isn't so.

With rounding errors, seized Manchuria is ten times the size of Taiwan's area. Russians are a minority of the population of Outer Manchuria. Sounds like a real good reason for China to launch a special military operation to protect their people from a minority. Russia should understand that concept.

I think Canada should recognize China's right to annex it back.
