Flax Buyers

I grew flax this year for the 1st time in many, looking for feedback on where anyone likes to market through in the Saskatoon area. I met a few buyers at the CPS and wondering if anyone has experience with them? Anyone go through Bioriginal? Or DG Global? I used to sell flax through Ilta Grain mostly. Any others would be appreciated, thanks.

Grain Millers just built a new flax plant at Delisle, I think their buyers are based in the Yorkton office still though.

Try calling a trusted Broker.
Every area has its own markets, some local that don't exist in others.
If your dealing with a smaller player make sure they're CGC bonded.

If you're lucky enough to have the need to defer the payment, stick with the large line companies, you will lose CGC protection after a certain amount of time. I honestly don't know that if a deferred settlement falls within the 90 day protection window, if your still covered if you opted to defer settlement(I would think you would be???). If that's the case, maybe delivery could be timed so the 90 day protection window extends past your preferred settlement date, and the settlement is just withheld until you want it. That went off topic!

Next question, is there more upside than downside in the market? We took $19/bu for June/July delivery. I've seen worse but not better, "yet".

We sell our flax to Scoular at Richardson (Regina), Paterson at Indian Head, Lyft Commodities also will buy. We have done lots of sales of Wheat, Barley, Peas and flax with Lyft. Zeghers did buy lots from us, but luckily we never had anything there when they shut the doors. Hard to get excited about $18 when it was $43 2 years ago.

rodd, $43!, isn't that the truth. But all grains were in record high territory then. Back to a lesser reality now.

I don't think S/U ratios are low enough to take it back anywhere near that again. Geopolitical things at play too at the time.

We are long-term flax growers. We like it in our rotation! Demand has switched from export due to competition from the FSS, with the USA being a destination at this time for health food markets... Flax is a very healthy oil, and indeed, if we all added it to our diets, we could substantially impact the market, which has become more health food-based.

It is also used in Omega egg and feed diets, boosting demand.

Grain Millers will provide welcome and timely demand, and have provided the best bids so far.

Thanks for the replies! I did speak with grain millers at the show but I had forgotten about them until now, i will follow up. Good info Farmaholic, I had just assumed that if they were CGC bonded that it wouldn't matter about deferring checks? I will look into that closer.

Anybody sell flax to the O&T feed mill north of Regina?
Hear them advertise in the fall.
They are end users but I don't know how much chickens can eat?
