My region no insurance here guys sink or swim

This is about 65 kms away we are crook but not this bad can link it if ya want.

Farmer and agronomist Lou Flohr watched as temperatures plummeted to minus 5 degrees Celsius at her Lameroo property in late spring, decimating her crop overnight.

She said the spell of frost (https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-09-18/failing-crops-frost-drought-mallee-grain-farmers-hay-rainfall/104358994) impacted about 80 per cent of her operation in the Murray Mallee region, forcing her to cut her losses and use what was left for hay. Lameroo farmer Lou Flohr says more than 80 per cent of her crop was affected by frost. (ABC News: Carl Saville)
"We delivered 200 tonnes to the silo system, but last year we delivered 5,000, so that's an indication of the productivity we've had this year," Ms Flohr said.

The Mallee region that Ms Flohr farms in is already a low rainfall area, and growers were expecting a below-average year as drought conditions began to set in.

"But the frost certainly dampened it even further and made us pivot a lot with how we ended up finishing the season," she said.

Is there any kind of insurance you can buy for disaster prevention?

Are most farms diversified in livestock and grain to help even out income?

Do you think the higher risks from no govt insurance keep land prices lower?

I know that I would have way less neighbour’s farming here if there was no insurance.

Grain farming is a risky business . Insurance companies generally have their risks calculated, actuarials lay awake at night figuring it out. Odds and permutations... like lottery providers?

I think GARS was bought by Hub International Insurance.

How are land rents calculated? Crop share or fixed cash lease?

Considering how much the Trudeau government has wasted , I really don't think the little bit agriculture gets is a problem when you consider how much it contributes to the economy.

                  Subsidised insurance. Now that's funny.

Every gov in canada knows in good years they profit from insurance and only complain when payouts happen. Do you honestly think Trudeau gov sends money to Sask ag for crop insurance.

I can't remember my last crop insurance claim. Probably 15 years ago. What I pay in premiums is more than fair for an insurance policy. Now you want to tell me that I'm only paying a third of my 'actual' premium? Lol.

If you tell me that my premium would triple next year I'd drop it in a heartbeat.
