That said, peas are even more miserable with all this smoke... fluffy and friggin sticky on account of dew. Seems you get maybe 5 decent hours of combining, and maybe 7 if you're willing to work around slip clutches and buzzers howling? 100% humidity for something like 7 hours last night. Takes until just after lunch before you can reliably feed it up the front end without plugging, then you're screwed again just shortly after supper. Sunset might as well be 7pm here right now.

Crop is starting to ripen up and surprise surprise the weather has turned damp and cool. Crop fought back from the summer flooding to look respectable but delayed maturity in the flooded areas has made the crop uneven which will complicate harvest.

Drew has eastern Sask getting wetter as we get more into fall. Ordered propane already just in case. I hate harvesting in snow. Out to spray reglone after supper on last peas so about 10 should be done. Some early wheat maybe on Saturday will get sprayed.

Went on a parts run yesterday and took the gravel for a lot of it. Drove through areas where the $100 plus rent is the norm. Saw more fields of sub 30bu canola than ones that could surpass 30 bu. Also a quite a few miles of 20bu canola. And that’s not taking into account pods that obviously will be aborting in the heat. Cereals look ok from the road, but how did they fill and what will the quality be? Lentils and peas look average to me or below.

All of my peas are in the bin. They never looked great all year but were a breeze to harvest. On my best land, averaged in the high 50's. I'm anticipating a less than average crop across the board.

What proportion of the prairies is going to be above vs below average? Is it roughly eastern half vs western half, or worse than that?

I would say worse than that maybe southern Manitoba is a sweet spot but the heat and shallow roots from a wet June didn't work out.
