We grew 3 qtrs of hodge and weren’t really impressed. Yielded a little less than Brandon. It also lodged a little bit.

The rest of the world won’t need to seed lentils as there will be enough for all next yr.

Same plan... I try not to chase. I prefer to grow things that sort of work here. Those things being crops that will at least attempt to reproduce seed in a drought.

        *Sawfly resistant durum
        *peas
        *yellow mustard

That said, if it doesnt get wet in a serious manner, nothing is going to matter, it'll all end up looking like shitty summerfallow.

        -Dugouts empty
-moisture nonexistant from surface to water table (which is dropping)

Dugout is full not a snowflake in sight, so far so good.

Hodge may be a half day earlier and lodging resistance was a no go this year. We will probably seed more Starbuck than Hodge this year and try doing another trial again and cross our fingers for more rain this year.
Ok thanks for the info I think I will try some Starbuck.

Number one trait I need is sprouting resistance at harvest, only landmark and Leroy have that. Landmark best protein. Solid stem. Stands great, better than other two. 67 and 64 bu/acre last 2 years. 13 Prt, 67 lbs /Bu.

Viewfield is the top yielder in our area but need to absolutely pour the groceries to it and if not... low pro ( like many others). Grew hockley...broadacres... hodge.. and alida ( which has been our standard for 4 yrs now).
Did a trial of all 4 in a field surrounded by scrubland and they were all within 2 bushels of yield so " essentially" all the same due to variability in the stats...
interesting thing was hockley is rejected due to ergot and all others had next to 0. They all stood roughly the same... matured the same.. looked.. very similiar.
Its tough to keep up with all the new varieties coming out...
Will growing 3 of the 4 varieties this yr and probably try 2 new cps varieties ( stronghold and
                ...?)

Oddly enough we dropped landmark a few years ago because it was the worst on farm for sprouting in a wet fall ... havent had a wet fall in 3 yrs now so nothing to compare it against # lucky!

"how the hell can a person be excited about it if it doesn't make malt? "

Was chit the downgrade? 6/10" rain turned to 30-40% chit at Wadena elevators. What have others seen?

20% or more chitter at local elevator. Turned into 4-5% chit when delivered against malt contract in Winnipeg.

But price lately in Winnipeg is $1 less than here. Chit is at 10% there, same sample as 30-40% here. No rhyme or reason to why such a difference. If over they might send back, another $2 trucking bill, not worth the risk.
