Our Canadian support failed them and they couldnt cover there imput costs when there was no crop. (SASK CROP INSURANCE AND CASIP)

is what I was referring too? It seems to have become engrained into our thoughts and conversation as if it were some sort of answer.

What is the difference between food and skidoos? Food is abundant and can be purchased from anywhere cheaper than it is produced. Why should the government support a loosing entity? Is that good use of tax dollars?

Is there another way? Forums like this are for challenging that "conventional wisdom". In this case it is reliance that the government will make my farm viable thru the next program anouncement. So, I'm challenging it.

In terms of yield, grow 10% more than your neighbours and you will stay in business. So I would agree, yield is vital, but so also is contribution margin.

...tom4cwb...your talking to someone that has not used the board for years ...my grain production goes through my cattle ...if you feel you can produce against the rest of the world when your market is tied to chicago...when your imputs are the same as those farmers that have different ag policies...go for it...like i said i have no problem with you producing more but you never did answer the question... what will you do when no one around the world wants your product for what you feel its worth...

...wd9...i agree 100% on subs...you did notice how our beef industry went running to the govt right after may 03...it was the the fellows higher up the chain...there the ones that needed the govt subs...why was that...why was cow-calf man allowed to lose piles of equity and still are... you would have a hard time convincing me that since our fat market has stayed at 85 cents for over a year that it as anything to do with supply and demand...

I am not looking for help hell I survived loosing 1.5 million in Cash the years 02,03,04 what I was trying to get across to some of you who don't farm is that the Liberals Promised to the Urban Canadians that they were doing something for Canadian farmers and Did nothing. The Cow Calf guys see that with Programs and So do the Grain and Oil seeds. The guys who Gave it all in 02,03,04 have long since left agriculture there farm sales were last spring.

I can control one thing my costs but Mother Nature NO WAY.

Develop personal relationships that can ride through hard times... and be honest and fair with folks who buy the grains we grow! On one hand, most times the CWB prevents the first; and insults, deceives, and extorts blackmail payments from my grain customers on the other hand... (or they say one thing while doing the exact opposite!)

If we don't have faith, hope, and love for humanity... who need food and our grains... why would we ever be in this business of producing grain in the first place!

I hadn't heard of anyone loading a s-bee of #1 15.5CWRS and taking it to heaven with them yet... have you?

All the best for 2007... I hope we can respect one another long enough, to start our way out of this rats nest we have allowed to box in our minds, with respect to marketing!

Tom I judge every year throughout the year.
In may see moisture market etc.
As move into June if its flooding drought or etc. to judge can top dress etc. disease etc. then July the critical point if looks like 50 plus wheat and need protein can top dress etc. then august pray no frost.
finally there.

This is farming and if one thinks throwing every thing at the wall is the answer go for it but if one wants to survive stay and decide as the year goes on.

The sad part about frost is in many cases it need not downgrade wheat to feed use... as many of us know!

If we were allowed to innovate and search out markets for our wheat... we could salvage a better return there is little doubt!

250lb on N up here is obviously a silly idea... but what about 100 if early seeding is possible?

Yes thats why I shipped it to Manitoba mixed with their fusarium wheat and got a #2 dockage was around 8% but moved it for a higher price. But got no CASIP because I sold #2 wheat and neighbors sold feed. Great system.

100lb is our normal rate of N. But when the guys went over and did all to get the highest crop those were the guys who failed and failed miserably. Its great if their is a insurance that actually covers our basic costs. Hell Ill pay extra just to be covered but SASK Crop doesnt do that its BASIC 70% or 70% so 50.00 an acre.
