    new-crop oats

realize most of you are in alberta where oats is less than exciting, but what's the take on 07 oat bids at $2.20/bu in sk and $2.50/bu in mb??? pretty fine bids historically but guess that depends on next spring's action...

Like you said Kenneth historically good bids, but I do believe myself the best is yet to come.

I think oats has room to move further, I follow markets fairly close, and with the current Corn & Soyabean rally I think its going to be a tough sell to American growers to seed oats.

I believe they will have to keep new crop bids strong in order to get some acres seeded.

    This is my opinion though.

Don't get caught up trying to hit a home run in oats. Anything between 2.25 and 2.50 is a good single, maybe even a double or a triple. My advice is to sell a chunk (25%) now. You can always gamble with the remainder down the road. We can't keep thinking of marketing decisions as "all or nothing".

I agree Zaphod. We took some expected 07 production at 2.45/bus. Even if energy costs rise again, this is a profitable price at average (even below average)yields. Scale up selling, rather than the "all or nothing" approach is the way we like to go when we can remain disciplined.
