    How big(Small) is the canola crop?

    The beginning of august there was lots of talk of an 8.MMT Canola crop. With a couple of frost behind us now the talk is from 500,000 to 1MMT drop in output.

    What do we subtract the yield loss from 8MMT forcast of 7MMT forecast.

    I have not heard any grain company estimates yet has anyone else?

        There are a couple of inches of snow on the ground in Edmonton this morning. Temperature has been hovering around zero for a while.

          Lots of power outages this morning, including lots of traffic lights in Edmonton not in operation, which makes for an interesting morning commute !
          RCMP are advising not to travel on Highway 43 around Whitecourt.

            Well all summer I heard people tell of getting rain every two days, here we could'nt grow a lawn. Now just as the canola finishes blooming we're gettin it. Finished swathing the canola Aug 17 soon too be a month agoe. I saw 2 combines in the field going but with no dust.

            Thinking positively the frost killed the worms eating the canola and the regrowing around it.

              Charlie;

              Does anyone have a handle on how much Northern Alberta grain is pasted to the ground?

              1 million acres?

                They grow 1 million acres of canola in the Peace, Tom. U tell me how much will be lost and canola will fair better than cereals.

                On December 08 when STATSCAN releases the final production number for grains, then everyone will wake up. Until then, let them live in la la land.

                SWP is estimating 500,000 MT loss in production for canola and 100,000 MT for Flax.

                They must be mistaking cash flow with production.

                  I farm in NE Alberta. Our cereals were in early and am concerned that the wheat may not even be accepted as feed. Considering how much feed there is out there, is this a possibility? Our wheat has quarter inch sprouts in a standing head. I'm thinking the falling number is a bit high, like a zillion.

                    Started swathing our wheat today. The snow packed it down therefore progress was pretty slow. I don't think my little swather will be able to keep ahead of two combines, plus I don't really want to swath anyway because the forecast is the pits. Lots of swathers are rolling in the area now. We got our first touch of frost this morning.

                    Does anyone have a handle on propane prices. I filled three weeks ago at 36 cents, but its probably gone up since then and will continue to climb.

                    Happy to see US wheat finally turning up. I also got an email from ADM about $8.00 canola, delivery this week.
