The Harper government was also in power when Putin invade Eastern Ukraine and Crimea in Feb/2014.

I doubt Peter knows that you can only go 20-30 miles an hour over the tundra on the rail line.

Now while Mackay is sitting on the side lines he reveals his pipedream.

Any wonder the CPC have been coming in 2nd lately.
Not intending to turning this into a CWB debate.

I won't argue your comments, but will say the CWB railed grain from Churchill to either Thunder Bay or Vancouver costing farmers many dollars instead of just opening more quota for the grain they needed at the ports. Its a viable port but not until graincos buy into it AKA subsidized substantially into using it.

This Ukraine issue / EU food and energy shortage may just be the spark.

Disclaimer: I think Peter Mackay is the conservative version of Justin Trudeau.

About every 10 to 15 yrs people see Churchill as a great untapped potential that is a deepwater port only 550 miles from Tisdale.
No significant private money has ever been invested there since HBC used it as a fur trade post.
Was some economic activity as a military outpost 80 yrs ago.
CWB loaded a few cargos every year. Hauled in with old boxcars because only has light rail. Probably involved pork barrel maintenance contracts for political freinds.
To much baggage accumulated over the years for me to be a believer.

Remember those mini aluminum hopper cars the Government had built to run on the light rail?
They scrapped them out a couple of yrs ago.
One boondoggle after another when Government puts up all the cash.

Russia has built pipelines all over the arctic and the americans built across Alaska, and we cant get something going to Churchill? Are we builders in this country or are we sustainable bike path riders?

The corridor is already disturbed and partial infrastructure built. Its the only game we have.

Plus since Manitoba is broke, it could help them too. They will be going for equalization permanently now, Alberta and Sask might as well get something for their buck.

If people had some vision, they would make a 3 way deal. Import MBs cheap subsidized budget breaking hydro into Sask and pass it over into ABs grid in exchange for developing that export corridor.

Well Tell Trudeau Putin could be coming over the circle any minute and maybe he can put a military base up there for 10 of those new F-35s he just bought.

Have been coming up with reasons not to buy F 35's since 1997. Mr Treudau takes an interest in Nato while on a virtue signaling junket to Europe and he's the biggest spender there.

Putin's fate will end in one of two ways, either Adolf's or Benito's.

                  We've always had that geographically.
Pesky politics and national borders get in the way.

                  Open question.
What does making Churchill viable look like when it's shallow and open 90 days in a year??
If we've learned anything this past decade, it's that the efficiencies at the beginning and end of the transportation cycle dictate.

I am for more defense spending but what are 88 planes going to do against hypersonics? Putin could render Montreal Ottawa and vancouver ashes in 30m.

Better off spending some of the money on some bases up north and some subs and ships that can go up there and a bunch of US patriot batteries. We arent going to dog fight anyone.
