    Fall pricing

For those scared to price fall grain after last years buy back disaster and dry soils right now, could you take the unsold portion of grain in your bins right now and sell that amount for fall?

The grain in the bins would cover the fall sales and hopefully once spring and summer rains come the old crop could be sold over the summer once the crop in the fields look good enough.

Summer crop sales should remain strong as supply will be tight till new crop is harvested. Fears of new crop prices dropping would be somewhat covered by the new crop sales.

Obviously this would only work for those with unpriced grain, of which some posters have indicated they have some.

    Thoughts?

I've used that strategy before, more so with canola. You just have to be aware of the convergence in prices at the end of summer. No doubt there will be a spread between old crop and new crop but it will narrow later into the summer. You will need a firm plan on when to pull the trigger on your old crop supplies to still capture the positive spread. Otherwise the strategy will be a waste of time and money.

Sell the old canola crop for $5 more now and forget locking in any bushels. Quit tripping over toonies to save a penny….

        again here are the problems with pre pricing;
        -massive drought
        -lack of cash
-lack of parts and equipment, PRICE OF SAME
        -price of fuel
        -lack of labour
        -problems in SA
        -lack of good seed
        -RUSSIA AND UKRAINE
        -LACK OF CASH
-LACK OF FERT, PRICE OF SAME
        -etc.
anyone that thinks this bin is getting filled in a year is dreaming

Even if we all grew a bumper crop canola and with Russia **** up h hi is much will be grown in Ukraine. You know they will put land mines so that will
**** ip those brave enough to try to farm.

We did minor amount of wheat and canola and barley and peas like we always do. It’s decent enough if it’s my lowest great.
