Bayer announces 3 month shut down of chem plant that makes ingredients for its glypo!

    https://news.agropages.com/News/NewsDetail---41894.htm

There are other reports but I cant get them to copy/paste.

Sounds like many north american retailers that Bayer makes generic/house brand glypho for are gonna be short up to 50% of product for the april to aug timeframe!!
Have heard CPS/Nutrien, CO-OP, Cargill are some that have been contacting customers that bought/booked/ordered product as far back as sept for late winter to spring delivery and saying they have to cut the order by 20 to 80% depending on quantity booked or paid for and when it was done.
Also hearing the usual delays from FNA/Agri city but that is normal for them and they may yet get supplies before seeding??

“According to reliable sources, on February 11, Bayer's global head of active ingredient production, wrote to customers that due to a mechanical failure in the manufacturing plant of a supplier of a key raw material, production will drop sharply. According to the supplier's notification, it is expected that the production line will be repaired for about three months. Due to this force majeure event, Bayer has notified that their scheduled deliveries of certain orders for glyphosate or products containing glyphosate may be affected.

It is known that the market for glyphosate is weak before and after the Chinese Spring Festival. The mainstream price has dropped from more than Yuan80,000 to Yuan75,000, and there was an offer with a price of Yuan72,000. In addition, according to AgroPages, most of the international market orders were placed in January, and they were basically wait-and-see since February, and the terminal sales price of glyphosate, a dealer in the United States said, has fallen by 20% in their area.

The U.S. market is currently entering an intermittent period of crop rotation. The Glyphosate will start to be applied in March. Some analysts estimate market shortage reaching 15-20 million gallons for the U.S. , about 56,000 -75,000 KILO LITER.

Brazil’s soybeans are about to be harvested, and the peak season for glyphosate shipments to the Brazilian market will start in April and last until September. Most of the orders that need to be shipped in April have not yet been placed this year. Bayer's announcement undoubtedly injected a stimulant into the seemingly weakened glyphosate market, and the market price of glyphosate began to rise that day in China.

It is unclear what raw materials was affected ( it may be Diethanolamine(DEA)or catalyst,)and how much glyphosate capacity of Bayer was affected. Due to the high price and downward trend in the previous period, the stock of glyphosate in the terminal market is limited. We will wait and see how long the boosting effect of Bayer on the glyphosate market will last.”

Glad I have all of mine. Bought most last July and the other stuff in Nov. Have all incrop booked hopefully it all comes.
Have to get a bigger chain and locks and some guard dogs.
Things going to get real serious real soon, and spring is a wink away.

Ya like fertilizer I dont think that much glyphosate will be available in springtime. I hear it will be summer before a lot gets here. We kinda knew this was coming but its a shock that Bayer didnt get things in order. We haven't used Bayer branded Roundup for at least 10 years but lots of guys that didnt price check did use it. I did get a call from my Invigor seed seller and has put Liberty aside for the seed buyers that want product. Guys growing the non BASF varieties may have a issue finding BASF branded product. The BASF rep tells me they have product in the warehouse to match their seed.

          This on RedRiverFarm Network today:

Force Majeure Invoked, Impacts Glyphosate Supply – An already stressed supply chain situation has taken another hit. Bayer’s global head of active ingredient production sent a notice to customers on Friday saying one of the company’s key raw material suppliers is three months. Bayer is invoking Force Majeure since its ability to fulfill purchase orders for glyphosate or glyphosate-containing products is being impacted. It’s not known how much of Bayer’s glyphosate capacity has been shut down.

Bayer Responds to Glyphosate Production Issue – In a statement provided to the Red River Farm Network, Bayer said the raw ingredient supplier experiencing mechanical failure may have short-term impacts on production of an active ingredient in glyphosate. “Our supplier is on track to restore production, we’ve sourced additional materials and made other mitigation efforts to help best manage this situation. We expect any impact to be marginal in terms of our annual glyphosate production.” Bayer said the Roundup branded ag herbicide business supply will continue to be balanced through the current ongoing supply management efforts.
