    Oats

I'm not sure what the local market is doing but the oats chart is starting to look like lumber from a few months ago.

Local prices have hit $6 in our area, bins still locked up for now, $6.50 looks like a reasonable target but will wait to see how far specs push this rally. Oats futures prices has gradually moved up slowly following other grains but this week is the first time it is showing any signs of a real rally.

6 bucks is potentially once in a lifetime.

For years I sold and grew oats and hoped for 2 bucks. First year I sold them for 1.35.

Don’t miss the boat. If I had oats they would be long gone.

Sadly the oats are pretty light, if you have a contract for $4.00 you will be getting $3.00 after discounts. If you don’t have the oats to fill the contract it will even be worse. The few oats crops I have seen will need $6.00 per bushel to make anything.

Remember helping neighbor loading producer car ( boxcar ) in January .97 cents / bu . We stopped for Rum drinks afterwards.

That pretty much sums it up, most of us will not make much at $6.00 on a 60 bushel crop.

1965 My first yr farming good land was about $100 / acre I rember talking to elevator agent about land and he said $1 / bu oats and anyone can grow 100 bu,so land was to cheap, but no one would lend money to a young pup, full of ambition but not to many smarts.

Oat market having some impressive gains today, up 24 cents. Melfort is showing a bid of $7 for Jan-Mar delivery, time to drop off my samples soon and try to make a deal on this and last years oats, most of it is a borderline #2, depending on how desperate they are.
