    100 million dollars

Just to put some things in perspective...the so called 100 million for farmers in the federal budget that might be returned to farmers ...

10 percent of 350 billion is 35 billion
1 percent of 350 billion is 3.5 billion
.1 percent of 350 billion is 350 million
.03 percent of 350 billion is about 100 million.

Thats the worth of farmers to the economy according to Freeland and the 100 million is money farmers have already spent...its your money.

In 2016 agriculture and agri-food was 6.7% of Canada's GDP.

And in 2020 and 2021 its probably higher because it is one industry that is doing its part..

1 in 8 jobs are ag related prior to the pandemic...I am thinking its more like 1 in 6 now considering all the oil field workers working for farmers now.

And farmers are completely ignored....and taken advantage of...

Think about the 100 million refund Freeland suggested....then the 50 million taken every year from checkoffs...and what are we getting in return????????

They certainly won't be ignored when it comes time to pay for the "over 100% of GDP debt"

The federal government’s budget announced that it plans to return a portion of the proceeds of the federal price on carbon directly to farmers in the backstop jurisdictions of Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario for the 2021-22 year.
          Global news
It sounds like they are not going back to reimburse 2019 or 2020 when we paid huge amounts of carbon tax. They will think up some kind of administative nightmare that will soak up most of the 100million.

Why are they charging it to farmers anyway on farm inputs?

First thing the 98% non farmers hear/see is MILLIONS of $$$ in iron and land. No sympathy, maybe contempt/envy.
$18-20 canola seems everyone knows about.

To be fair though what did farmers deserve last year? We have sky high prices that apparently everybody here held out for and received and we were essentially untouched (economically speaking anyways) by Covid. Can you with a straight face say we deserve a handout this year? Especially over the small main street retailer? Imagine if you were forced to close your farm while the largest BTO in the area was permitted to operate. That’s what much of Canada small business had to deal with last year.
