    There's another plant at Edmonton recently announced along with Great Falls, 2 currently operating in North Dakota, and an absolute behemoth in California by Marathon at Martinez,CA. The Regina, Edmonton and Great Falls facilities will each take a billion pounds of veg oil a year. Govt "green credits" are currently paying the oil cos $4 /gal and they are selling the"diesel" into the futures market at par to ULSD, ultra low sulphur diesel at $1.90~

        Rack price for #2 ULSD is around $960/tonne at Saskatoon. (1175 liters/t)

        Export values for Jan 21 for refined canola oil was 1350/tonne. Subsequent months are going higher. It would require more refining to burn in an engine.

        If anyone is burning SVO in their HPCR diesel let us know how it's going...

          Soyoil basis is at +2000 into W NoDak, equivalent of 75 cents. It's not even on offer for OND. It sounds like crushers are going to keep supplying food end users first, but there's a limit... do we want to eat or drive?

            I listened to a guy on the radio earlier this winter from High River area that is almost in production mode, but waiting for government permits to make diesel from garbage. He says he can virtually eliminate landfills and can take pretty well any material other than contaminated soil. He said his cost of production is less than competing bio diesel from veg oil production. Now that would be a game changer if it were to be achieved on a large scale

              True, even a moderate change in diet worldwide would free up a lot of veg oil.
              Edible veg oil is not mandatory for human health. It's a convenience.
              Plenty of times I'd rather go hungry and just keep driving....

                Given the amount of restaurants closed in the last year around the world vegetable oil demand is amazing. The way things change in this world the more options for canola seed the better. Can it stay as no.1 crop forever I don't think so but it has had a good run in western Canada that's for sure.

                  I'm all for this and Diesel isn't dead if we just tweak it a bit. Need a Liberal to get a slush fund from it and were off to the races.
