Alberta $24-billion budget deficit largest in Canada

Geezus AB, what is the end game here? You are going to break yourselves trying to pay for Canada and being so nice.

Is saying you are Canadian really worth this kind of pain because Trudeau is queuing up another round of attacks on the energy sector and more outrageous spending to pay for.

    Somebody wake Kenny up.

https://financialpost.com/news/economy/alberta-budget-deficit-hits-24-2-billion-as-revenues-plunge-but-government-resists-tax-hikes Deficit will be $16.8 billion higher than forecast this year

Proportionately, Alberta’s (deficit) is large. It’s the largest provincial deficit number as a share of GDP

If they're in debt way over their head do they still have to make equalization payments?

Theoretically, eastern Canada is older than Alberta.....shouldn't they be grown up and independent by now? More "mature" and able to fend for themselves?

I think we are officially a “ have not “ province this year. Probably get a bag of Doritos and a used tire from the feds. Seriously need out of this confederation, it’s not going to change.

I think there is a two year lag in calculation of equalization. So if the economy tanks it is two more years before you switch from a have to a have not.

Kinda sounds like crop insurance. Don't it.

You can bet if there was ever a dollar the other way from Quebec to AB, country would be in separation mode.

I saw the projections... we 'STILL' HAVE much more 'CAPACITY' to tax folks in Alberta... with no sales tax and much higher wages [per capita] than Quebec and eastern Canada...

              So

No equalization payments [for Alberta] of any consequence projected for foreseeable future...

When the finance minister read the budget, he blamed low world oil prices and covid for the record deficit! Unlike most Agriville posters, he never once mentioned Trudeau as the cause of all of Alberta's misfortunes! LOL. Whats up with that?

Will Alberta ever learn that Saskatchewan's and Moe's "radical socialist" tax system would solve a lot of their problems? I doubt it.

It's like the farm family who strike oil and then spend it all in the first few years forgetting that eventually the wells run dry and revenues go down. Little foresight or long term planning.

And then Kenney talks about spending billions on an unproven hyperloop between Edmonton and Calgary? LOL Why not proven high speed rail?

They are going to look at extracting hydrogen from the gas reserves which makes sense. Maybe all those fossil reserves can be used for cleaner hydrogen?

As far as I am concerned , Saskatchewan should be asking out of confederation also. Manitoba as well. I have a hunch that Pallister is a little too much a closet Liberal supporter. Maybe I am wrong on that.

lets face it agrivillers , the Government ( Justins version anyways) DOES NOT give a crap about us out here. There really isn't any way of sugar coating that. THEY DON'T CARE !!!! I am getting really tired of dumb ass Ontario and Quebec voters deciding how this country is being governed. Regardless of the laws that are in place , it is time to turn off ALL of the Taps to the east. Break laws if we have to. The Indians didn't seem to care a few months ago , why should we ?

Chuck2 I believe the only contribution from the government of Alberta is the use of land for proof of concept, no money from the provincial government is being invested in this project. As usual you are wrong but I do enjoy this aspect of your posts!

If this gets built then doesn't work out yes provincial money will be invested. Not going to leave a dilapidated pipe dream fall apart all the way from Edmonton to Calgary. Just like abandon oil wells.

To build on that I think the land was actually already committed under the previous NDP government anyhow, basically just an announcement for a feel good story.
