    Saskatchewan Budget

Seems the last provincial budgets have been quite hard on the farming industry. I wonder what this year will bring. Don’t think the fuel tax change and the other expenditures passed on to farmers were appreciated. After all we knew our net farm receipts were dropping 48 percent so why didn’t the provincial politicians. Can wait for wexit.

There was this study that came out a couple weeks ago. Even though sk has the lowest debt per capita in the country, its going to be impossible to hold the line on that without some sort of change in fiscal policy.

My only wish and recommendation for the Sask budget is: balance the damn thing. I don't care how it's done, whether through higher taxes or more cutbacks, just balance it. Use prudence in spending, don't spend $2 billion on another bypass when $1-billion would have done the job. We have a new stadium, we don't need another sports mecca for a while. Coming off 2019 farming isn't in stellar shape but if the gas tax changes of the last budget or the level of crop insurance coverage is going to sink your farm then the provincial budget isn't your biggest problem. Lots of other industries in the province are going through financial difficulties - it's not up to government to backstop everyone. Government isn't Santa Claus bearing gifts for everyone, nor is it Jesus Christ here to save us all. Prudence and common sense are needed. Or else we'll end up in financial quicksand like Ontario and Alberta.

But the alternative is what? Not across the aisle, that's for sure.

If history tells us anything, based on past actions, if Meili and Co. get in they'll shut down the new childrens hospital and gravel the Regina bypass! Sure lots of mistakes have been made, but under the old regime Saskatchewan would be down to 3/4-million people, mostly gumpy old CCF'ers.

For once we agree mustard. Regina is the only city on the planet where it takes longer on the bypass at 120km an hour than to just drive though the damn city.

And a new one just this week. a $400m stadium 3 yrs old that sits empty 350 days of the year, too expensive to operate for anyone else, now needs some of the concrete concourses replaced.

Don’t believe everything the NDP tells you about this topic.
Why have successful manufacturing plants in the province incorporated lean?
Most manufacturers use a form of Lean, Six Sigma or other program that increases efficiency.

Unions will resist lean as there is a focus on continuous improvement which will reduce waste and increase efficiency.

What Moe should do is pay the carbon tax bill for farmers and send Ottawa the bill through the coronavirus payment he will be receiving....

Ottawa said for provinces to send them the bill....surely after hiding the GTH blunder they should have learned some better accounting tricks...

BTW what export is actually moving out of Saskatchewan ?

                      Oil is being shit on...

Potash still has a couple of mines down....

I guess the little ole farmer is moving some as usual but its not an industry worth supporting....

I might as well vote NDP knowing they won't support farmers....there is no point in supporting the Saskparty....

Trying to take their negotiations with teachers to the kids....both sides knew when the contract was due...

Its pretty obvious management of both union and the government dropped the ball....they have 4 years during the contract to settle the next one....

Now is the time to cut healthcare and balance the budget? Probably not.

Didn't we learn the lesson that recessions are not a good time to cut government spending?

We had a good run with the commodity boom. Large profits, inflation in housing and land and a higher cost of living.

What did the Sask Party put away for a rainy day? Not enough!

Are all the stories from depression era parents starting to be more relevant? I hope not.
