So if that scenario plays out, who will be manufacturing food in North America? Who will be transporting that food? How long before ag supplies run short? We might get the crop planted, but will it be harvested? And if harvested, can it be processed?Originally posted by biglentil View Post
I'd say food might be something to have on hand,,, by the end of June, if not sooner.

The market seems to disagree, judging by the prices of raw ag commodities the past few sessions.Originally posted by beaverdam View PostSo if that scenario plays out, who will be manufacturing food in North America? Theres some slack in the JIT distribution system, however on high demand items I think that slack is running low. For example new shipments of PPE (personal pertection equipment) are earmarked for Gov't 1st, military 2nd, 3rd hospitals, then private business. Could be some time before you see a N95 mask on a Cambodian Tire shelve.Originally posted by beaverdam View PostCould it be, "they're" cranking up production, before all the workers get too sick to come to work?

I would say on the farm is about the safest place you can be. I can imagine a lot of the transmission cases are in close quarters, planes, ships, public transit, large gatherings. We have pumped so many people into these large cities its no wonder there isnt an outbreak like this every year.
Load up some videos of the Chinese or Japanese mass transit systems.
I can gobble lentils out of the bin if things get real dire.

I disagree with you, and I will use our personal situation, our daughter works in the airline industry and is on a regular basis through all the major Canadian airports. She could quite easily become infected. So although rate of transmission would be less in rural areas because of a wider dispersed population, the chance of infection could be just as high as a densely populated city. I however personally believe this Covid-19 thing is being blown out of proportion.Originally posted by jazz View PostI would say on the farm is about the safest place you can be.
