    Don't have one but has anyone every stuck in grain sample? Does it work at all?

    Don't think that would work for you. Hay testers work by conductivity and the sample has to be tight to the probe. You get a drastically different reading depending on where you probe a bale because of tension and direction of material.

        Probably depends on what you are trying to accomplish.
        Trying to establish absolute moisture is probably worthless

        But if you are just probing bags or Bin doors and trying to compare one to another, It would probably be a quick and easy way to rank the grain from driest to toughest, even if the value itself is meaningless. And get the temperature at the same time.
