So are you celebrating that fact, or lamenting it? Does that mean socialism has failed in those countries, or is that proof of its success?

And apparently, the socialist apologists on Agriville don't have an answer to our inconvenient question, judging by the fact that they have moved on to attacking on other threads instead, but gone quiet here.Originally posted by fjlip View PostApparently Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, and Iceland are BIGGER capitalist countries than USA?
How do they answer that without contradicting the very foundation of their beliefs?
Apparently George Orwell was right as usual. All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others, as evidenced by the concentration of wealth in the socialist utopias.
Probably safe to suggest that the former CWB apparachiks who come here drumming up support for their latest socialist schemes, see themselves as members of the Nomeklatura due to their past positions, and therefore immune from the hardships the rest of us peasants deserve to endure while they enjoy their privilege of being more equal.

I've never understood the purpose, or intended audience of rankings of mostly intangible qualities such as this.
Is it just an excuse for the left to pat themselves on the back for once again ( and act surprised) placing the socialist countries at the top?
Is it for prospective immigrants who are shopping the world from their mud hut in Africa while hiding from the civil war outside, to conclude that Sweden is definitely off the list now, since Denmark just overtook them in the happiness index?
I understand rankings about corruption, taxes regulations, productivity etc. being useful for businesses deciding where to set up shop.

Jazz, I am tired of your continued BS on this forum so provide the list of the billionaires that I counted, seeing as you are publicly claiming to know who I counted. And also the names of the billionaires who own the Vatican as you claim.Originally posted by jazz View PostThey aren't, dml was counting European royalty and 1000 yr old families who own castles and the Vatican as part of the billionaires club.

My brain hurts.
Nordic countries are not socialist in the same sense as Venezuela.
People own businesses. In fact, because of state support, there are less obstacles to starting a business.
If your schooling, healthcare, housing are known to be taken care of you can devote time to create build and invent.
The assertion that all advances come out of the USA are so ignorant and ludicrous as to warrant the posters supporting such views to be totally ignored.
There is however somewhat of a difference in development design and invention to help society and better people's lives and society as a whole, vs. The inventor/developers own financial interests only.
The grass is always greener on the other side till you get there.
However, the best way to kill the grass on your side of the fence is by having willful ignorance of the world around you.

Geez dml, you had to break out the bolding eh? triggered much. The US has the most millionaires and billionaires on the planet. Breaking it out per capita doesn't change that. Europe is a 5000 year old society. Just holding land that long would make a family a billionaire. US is 300 yrs old and wasnt really settled coast to coast since the mid 1800s. The wealth creation they have attained (outside of conquest) will not ever be repeated in human history.Originally posted by dmlfarmer View PostJazz, I am tired of your continued BS on this forum so provide the list of the billionaires that I counted, seeing as you are publicly claiming to know who I counted. Swedens top marginal tax rate ( all levels combined) is 70%, and kicks in at equivalent of $98,000 USD. Their neighbors aren't far behind. It would take a long time to become a billionaire taking home 30% of your income. I am inclined to side with Jazz on this one. These are either hereditary elite, or corrupt crony capitalists(socialists) well connected to government largess.
Some animals are more equal than others.
