    Peas

How do other peas, greens or maple for instance compare with profit, demand, harvest ease, and yield of yellow. What are some variety names that have worked for you.

Maple peas got to be the worst for lodging. Other than that they are a hard pea and hold quality good

In this area greens yield much the same as yellows . Many areas claim yellows still out yield greens . Never been the case here.
Stand every bit as good as yellows but seem to be more sensitive to root rot from experience here.
We used to grow both .
No experience with maples , neighbours grow some and seem to do good
Dunn peas seem to be growing in acreage here.
But if fusarium or aphenomices root rot is bad , no peas are good .

We’re doing the 8 year rule and sticking to it. But this next spring I still have to harvest wheat or canola before I seed. Yellow but probably only a half section as it sits now.

Have been growing AAC Ardill for two years, best standing yellow pea I’ve ever grown. Seeding heavy also makes stand better.
They are a great yielding variety.

Ardill’s were flat as pancake here. Meadows were bit better. Inca’s stood the best.

                I like Dun peas

They are durable and high yielding and they stand up like they have Viagra In their genetics.

Price most times for Dun Peas is better than yellow peas.

                They handle the weather well.

Agronomically they are the same as yellow peas.

Jag your comment about how good they stand has caught my eye. Interested where you sell Dun peas. And what variety of Dun pea you grow. I grow one yellow peas every year but I am getting tired of digging them out of the dirt.

I have sold my Dun peas to Vicki Dutton , ADM and G3 in the past.

                    WA Grain also buys them.

Vicki or Dave can answer the marketing questions better than I can.

The variety that we grow is the CDC Dakota Dun pea.

Have been growing them for 8+ years now.

They out yielded our CDC Inca yellow peas in 2019.

I tried winter peas this year for the first time. I seeded them last May and am hoping to combine them next May, or is that maybe!

Dun peas are a really great product in theory, high protien, better taste then a yellow and should have lots of demand. But they are illiquid and essentially trade at a sharp discount to maple peas. If maple peas are cheaper these won't sell. I prefer to grow maple peas instead.

Acer fall down with any reasonable crop size. Mosaic and Blazer maples are much better.
