$8k since the bins are close to a bigger line which is great. The gas coop says we can easily get 10 million btu and maybe more. The dryer is 8 million and we’d like a gas gen set for running everything since power is retarded for an install even though there’s three phase line at the driveway. Just have to figure out if that option can work or not.

Looking forward to piecing this puzzle together. 😎

How does this fit into your plan for growing mostly cow feed in the future? Or did I misunderstand that?

First year experimenting. Flax received N from chickpeas so only applied phos for chickpeas.
We love experimenting too. Even more when they turn out. 👍

Did you do it along a main road to keep the neighbours guessing if you lost your marbles (like us) or hidden in the back somewhere?

Careful Jazz man, some of your S&P500 capital can evaporate and be gone for good while that dirty farmland will just lay there waiting to appreciate again. Mind you, long-term stock market charts and land price charts are probably close to mirror images of each other.

            First world problems....

or depreciate, few takers on the land for sale around here $3500-4000 an acre.

feels very toppy especially with some commodity prices low.

We’ve started renting some more land and it’s on shares and they want it in grain not cow chow. Hard to find ground to buy or rent here so we work with what’s available. Keeping another 130 bred heifers so the cow numbers are still increasing but I think we might be maxed out on calving time help as my folks and our employee are in their mid sixties. Much easier moving grain with hopper bins and such than processing and calving cows I find.

This year was all barley and a good chunk of it will go through the cows as well. Rolling some that had a bunch of volunteer wheat in it to be fed. Cows still go crazy for it and no discounts either.

I freely admit I know very little and plans were made to be broken/changed. Made thousands silage bales out of necessity (thanks Ma Nature) when I didn’t need any feed for ourselves.

Coles notes version........... plans changed somewhat 😉
