Ag Ministers give farmers a finger for Christmas

Federal agriculture minister Marie-Claude Bibeau says improvements are coming to farm support programs.

After meeting with her provincial counterparts, Bibeau says farmers can use private insurance programs without being penalized through the agristability program.

Saskatchewan agriculture minister David Marit welcomes the improvement.

He says “we’re happy to hear that revenue from private insurance won’t go against a producers agristability claim.”

Bibeau says there will also be further study of farm support programs prior to the next agriculture minister’s meeting next summer.

She says a pilot project will be done in Manitoba and the Maritimes to see if using tax returns can reduce paperwork to receive farm support payments.

Farm groups have called for coverage levels in agristability to be restored to 85 percent from 70 percent but Bibeau says more discussion is need because of the cost.

Somewhat odd they don't allow us to purchase 100% coverage? Put a stupid price on it but the least they could do is give the option. We are not asking for SNC or Bombardier coverage. The crop insurance system was never intended for the producer, its for everyone but. Keep the producer poor and he always has to sell. We been getting the finger much much longer then just recently and nobody wants to change it. Lol they allow private crop insurance but imagine the exploding heads if that was applied to health. Careful Mrs. Minister you are setting precedent.

And in the other room the provincial finance ministers want a new stabilization program retroactive to 2015...

Because of their poor financial planning....

Sort of weird ....giving poor planning of finance ministers a reward for their incompetence then telling farmers they are on their own but farmer's issues are out of their control. ...

This is the oldest trick in the Federal Gov book.

They Use to do this all the time when I worked for the Feds.

Have a big meeting behind closed doors.

Tell the Ministers we can look into all there needs.

Go back to Ottawa and do nothing.

Hope it goes away in Spring.

Farmers wake the **** up they are being advised by Accountants, Seed Companies, Grain Companies, Dealers. Farm reps do nothing but talk a good game and collect a check.

Devin Dreeshen worked Ritz's office while they were gutting ag programs as his masters were telling him to do...And by extension his dad was an MP probably supporting Ritz as well...

He looks pretty phucking stupid asking them to fix his phuck ups so this is all that will come out of the AG ministers meeting...

Chase the private insurance crap around ...smaller numbers but big donors to their campaigns...

Puppets is all the ag ministers are....they answer to anyone but farmers...

Farm groups should be outraged and since the weather is nice ...time for a tractor rally like the Europeans...
