The govts will never let food prices spike like that because it would be anarchy. Even if we affected a small increase in prices by restricting yeild, some other region would pick up the slack the next yr.

The better option would be to go back to idling land on purpose because that number would catch some eyes and its part of the reason crops are oversupplied.

When you sit back and think how well planned all this is, the constant prodding of doing better and growing more at any cost, and guilt if you don't, and if anyone says anything to the contrary they are poor business people without a clue.

But the root issue, we produce way too much food. And no it isn't a distribution problem, that is a myth.

An international export business cannot be dictated by supply management. Milk isn't being exported to Saudi Arabia. The best option is to leverage your storage and tools the govt does provide like cash advances. I sell almost nothing until the next crop is going in.

But if you want a better share of the retail market, that model has already been set here in western Canada. Sunterra Farms

But let me tell you if the weather gets your dander up or fertilizer costs or machine dealers, then serving the picky public across the counter is going to send you to the white room in no time. Do a little experiment. Go stand near a checkout and watch the carts full of junk, pop chips, juice processed foods. Then go stand in the fruit and vegetable section. Well people looking over produce with a magnifying glass. And you thought getting graded a #2 at the terminal was hard to take.

Instead of that, go buy stocks in these companies. Go get an 80% line of credit off your land base and sink it into dividend stocks, write off the interest costs.

Agree! heard that before about savings in banks, their stock pays MORE than any deposits...
