I would have told them we will think about it for a while....call us after christmas or when the real revolt starts with starving people.....then you have leverage....more than likely this is because the politicos are getting hungry....send them some peas to make into fake meat....

What do you mean we never got anything? Since June, livestock producers and by extension Canada has lost between 100 and 500 million in export sales depending on who is reporting. Real dollars! We have gained that back.

Do you actually think telling China that we won't sell you livestock for a few months more is going to make them give up anything else? If so you do not know the Chinese culture or people. We would be the bad guy and it would further inflame trade barriers.

Anyone who agrees with jazz, well the next time you cannot deliver grain on a contract, when it is finally called, go ahead refuse to deliver the contracted grain for a few more months. I guarantee, it will not make them any more receptive to provide you with delivery opportunities or pricing in the future.

That 500million won't be made back very soon if at all...canada has the market back but the losses are real in the time there were no exports....

But the dairy industry got 3.9 billion and they really can't prove they have lost that much when you factor the price of milk hasn't gone down...

Big issue here is where will China get the money to buy pork and beef? China is servicing more that 40T worth of mostly $USD debt. It has invested in infrastructure around the world, farmland in Africa, road to nowhere, bridge to nowhere, and ghost cities, oil sands at peak price etc. So unless Canadian pork producers accept yuan, this announcement is a big yawn. They print yuan not the $USD

When someone tried to bully you and returns with a weak hand you don't slobber all over them. That's the time to negotiate. Where are they going to get pork from or beef from? I bet Trump didn't just let them start buying soybeans again without something on the table.

Any smart leader would have worked a deal for max benefit. The canola trade could have been partially restored.

So is there a bunch of meat in storage someplace to send over there or a bunch of butcher hogs and fat cattle we have been holding back? Where is the meat going to come from at best can we supply before we invest and reboot the livestock industry? That takes time lots of hog barns and feedlots sitting empty. If we ship them the meat we have what happens to the customers we are serving now with that meat? They leave and we lose that market.

The reason for the 3.9 billion to dairy is because of the horrible trade deals that the Trudeau government signed with the US and Europe. Canada gave up 20% of the dairy industry in these deals.

Dairy farmers would have preferred to continue producing rather than this buy out of quota.

These deals by Trudeau and Freeland were a sell out of Canada's dairy farmers and a sell out of food sovereignty of all Canadians. Freeland has demonstrated she is little more than Trumps lap dog.

We in Canada now have opportunity to drink milk and dairy products from the US laced with antibiotics and hormones

To be fair ...I think some of this started under Harper because when the 3.9 billion was announced ....Scheer jumped and said that is what the previous conservative government was going to do as well...

Conservatives were vying for those Quebec votes as well with the dairy sector....

He is, Cathy McKenna to foreign affairs and that militant Quebec freak to Environment. Might as well make Melanie Joly Ag minister. Climate change and green economy agenda.

And we expected the next 4 yrs to be different.

Countries don't ship meat, companies do. Not up to Trudeau or Trump to send beef or pork to China, it's up to Cargill, JBS etc. Same companies work in all countries. The Brazilian JBS has been the biggest dollar beneficiary of the Trump tariff compensation to processors. They've taken that money and been shipping Brazilian pork to China. MAGA lol.
