Why is it so offensive to want better for farmers?

So truduea has to go I don’t know how many times I have to say that but here’s one more.

But let’s assume he’s gone and it’s a day after election. Conservative majority. Which one of the things you all complain about will they fix if we don’t get them the message we want it fixed? I get labelled a leftist called names which I could care less but which issue are they even talking about besides saying in a smiley face oh is conservatives we know farmers have challenges!
They haven’t even mentioned a word about the snow the rain the shitty drought have they or do you guys get different news coverage?

Cause the city folk can see your combines when they go camping.

Because no one understands that agriculture keeps many people employed at grain companies , retailers, railways , refineries, fertilizer plants, truckers etc...

Grant Devine understood this and rightly mortgaged the province on agriculture...The people that have followed don't have a clue....

But its understandable when you listen to the younger guys .....they think everything is sunshine and lollipops...well until this latest weather event...

I can tell you one thing....I am not so much the downer ( i am a realist...) anymore when talking to these youngings...thats a positive development...

Because farmers continue to spend regardless of shit weather..poor grain prices.
The green dealer had a line of used combines before the last rain/snow.
        All sold now.
So all must have extra money in pockets it would appear?
And yes city people just multiply all those combines by a half mill.each.

Most farmers make more off a couple quarters of canola than the average city wage slave will make in a year. Let me tell you honestly, there are few allies in the cities. There will be some business types and people with family history in ag who are sympathetic mostly on the prairies, but on average 90% of city people hate farmers.

Not one city person I know will work 16 hour days three months out of the year with very few days off and go down to 10-12 hours a day the rest of the year. It is a travesty to work more than 8 hours in a day, and if you do then time and a half it is or screw off.

City people could have 1.5-2 times more than they do if they put in the hours that I do on my farm at least. I am sure that most farms are the same. I don’t buy the poor me, but look what that guy has mentality.

And on one's death bed will you say "should have worked more hours, farmed bigger, bought more iron"? All my retired city friends and relatives are doing just fine, travelled the world, vacationed, put kids through school. 100,000 homes worth a million now. Basically enjoyed NON work stuff, perhaps way less stress. Not so bad at all.

And one drought... Or flood... Or wind storm... Or hail storm...

And the farmer has lost way more in a year than the city worker has made in 10.

                        I agree with both comments.
The younger generation of farmers talk rather brazenly on social media. I look at it thinking they are doing great. Its a mixed message. I am pretty sure I had a similar presentation at that age. Now I am older and usually avoid conversations about “the farm”. My presentation sucks. It always sounds like I am complaining when I should be at least a slight bit positive.
City folk do not necessarily hate farmers, they are living the grind, goto work, have the same weather/current events conversation with coworkers, pay mortgage go home make meals, rinse and repeat. There is nothing wrong in gainful employment and raising a family. It is something to be proud of.
Farmers have fragmented work hours and timelines. You have to be a business manager, a millwright, electrician, plumber, heavy equipment and passenger vehicle mechanic. There is never a dull or inexpensive moment farming/ranching.
Those are skills to be proud of but they do not pay as well as they would individually.
Its a mean world out there for everybody.
No politician is going to help you. After all, they get their salaries on other people’s money.

......the ones that hate farmers the most are probably the ones who had the opportunity to do it but didn't!

And last time I checked there IS NO BARRIER.TO ENTRY into the Industry.

                              Borrow and giver!
