Yes we should be cutting cost. Yes people shouldnt expand like fools and then cry. But none of this works without our instituions behind us. We cant go negotiate trade deals or hiccups.

I think 2010 because of the too wet there was a substantial handout ....that year would have ended many farms otherwise....

My venture is completely internal. There will be no trade barter with the lamb we sell. Black swan event? I guess a ewe or two may die? Just teasing you. I am under no illusion that my ventures may have problems, but I am pretty insulated from them as the model stands today.

I agree with getting nowhere arguing with each other, but I drive around and see the mini grain terminals, ahem, I mean rows of enormous hopper bins with multi million dollar machinery sitting out front on nearly paved yards, and my sympathy drops like a rock. Hard to get my head around subsidizing people’s choices you know?

I do have sympathy for those with real problems. I have had and continue to have struggles. I know the issues when things are tight. Not tight as in taking back a half million of fungicides, but tight as in how are we going to pay the power bill. That kind of tight is concerning and sad.

I still get the feeling that you harbor some resentment towards larger operations. That's the problem with us farmers, we squabble among ourselves too much and that is why we as an industry will never have a unified voice to present these problems to whoever is in government. There are a lot of hard working farmers who through trade problems, weather issues and in some cases just plain bad luck are struggling to make ends meet. You are correct, don't go and buy the new boat or sled or pickup that is a start but when other industries have faced the same challenges and have been given some government help, why is it do you believe we as producers shouldn't be afforded the same treatment?

Whatever kind of support they can come up with I want funded by a tariff on Chinese and Indian products. Like president Trump, I do not support unilateral free trade as in they get to do what they want while our product face steep barriers going into their markets. Anyways there are no boats, Denali's etc around my yard. I do have a diesel pickup but it is a 2006 Dodge. Pretty reasonable on a farm.

Sheepwheat assumes we re all spending like fools, which is not the case and in many cases I d bet many cut more than sheep has ever cut and due to acres are likely as efficient or even more so. Just because you are small does not make you efficient.

Instead of paying into farmers Agriinvest accounts maybe they should just pay it direct to the Agribusinesses that are going to scoop it all anyway? That is what will happen if an ad-hoc payment is given. Fert price up, canola seed up, machinery costs up - canola price down further.

Subsidies don't work.

Interesting how lefties on Agriville are promoting the heavily subsidized solar/wind power manufacturing industry selling equipment. To add to this they promote sun and wind power into regions that will never have a payback.
But Canada matching a USA MFP 1&2 payment for grain farmers during a trade war with China is bad.
