That particular malady could become more common as time goes by

This is a good example of primary producers.
People around the world drink coffee every day and yet, somehow coffee prices are at a 14 year low. The other observation is, I drink coffee every single day but I do not recall the last time I thought about the general well being of a coffee farmer or his family.
Apply this attitude to all primary production farms and thats where we sit. Nobody cares anything about your operation except yourself.

Hobby your 100% correct on this, I would hit the like button but I don’t like this and no easy solution.

Should check off dollars, go to consumer promotions? It works in and for supply management, everything else is commodity and subject to supply and demand, finicky consumers, politics, etc

              Fair trade coffee.

Like this, the only stuff we buy... Exactly because coffee producers deserve to make a living

I agree Hobby and Klause and do think about where my coffee comes from and how those farmers make a living. This is because of the promoting of fair-trade coffee but skepticism leaves me wondering who is actually capitalizing on the “fair trade” coffee marketing program and to what extent are the primary producer gains vs food processors. You see there is still an economic problem, many producers and limited buyers/processors...

I drink a lot of coffee. Don't worry about fair trade because market price is fair trade. Dairy and poultry could take a hint Maybe we need fair trade canola. Producers have to reduce production when the market tells you so. I have reduced fertilizer use and turned down a rental field that could go into canola. 3 year rotation. Delayed planned machinery purchase. Can't believe the competition is still putting the money out there for production with the market screamin NO.
