Minus 2 here I dont think it even got above freezing at all today, snowing tonight, quite white already. Was on a road trip today saw a couple seeding rigs going south of Calgary, maybe not as damp as we are but still snow banks from last weeks snow in the ditches. Not sure its worthwhile to be going with these temps but to each their own I guess.
Well ...... been in “the canola seed business” for near 27 years .... and without a doubt I will be getting a call within 10-15 days about a seed complaint. Just gently trying to remind guys to fukin wait .... please .
Seed is crazy expensive.... but it’s not Wonder Woman shit .

How can weeds and volunteers even start to grow in these temps let alone survive? ....and they are.

Your answer to the question is weeds have the natural selection and have been bred to withstand almost everything. Our expensive canola that they say they created is man-made, not as good as oh Natural.

Just saying we overpay for Seed that is sub-par.

hey, Tom, we need that tax.

        HAHAHAHA

-9 In Regina this morning as I head to the farm.

The farm weather station is -7.

Good thing the pump was out of the pit and the sprayers are inside.

Again those who seeded two weeks ago or longer how is that early stuff doing or is it like sex.

Some get going so fast they can't satisfy and end with a whimper or the late starter that works it up and goes for the gold.

Its Canada and were usually cold till mid May.

Why do you think we leave Canola in the bags till the 14th to 16th.

Tree buds froze back quite a bit. Looks like Manitoba maples will be first leaves out here.
                Nothing yet, who da thunk?

-8 with a feels like of -11 this am.
                  Finish peas tomorrow.
Soil if blacker, actually up to 9 yesterday.
Not hurrying, hoping it warms up.
Have seeded canola last for years now.

Maybe furrow can answer this question that's been bugging me for years.....

If guys want to put 5 pounds of canola out when it's cold and lose 50 percent ...why don't they just seed later at 2.5 pounds and save money?

Minus 7 at 4:40 this a.m. but like I said, it will be freezing from 0 all the way down to minus seven and all the way back up to zero.

Looks like one more cold spring night tonight then it starts to become a little more respectable.

Edit in, at least I haven't started to complain about it "freeze drying", yet.
