Those extremes are normal for the prairies. Those numbers were hit in the 30s and 60s too.

The only point it proves, Is that if you define your parameters broadly enough to include all possible outcomes, then Every possible weather event can be used as proof of the theory.

Cognitive bias. Extreme temps were hit in most places in Canada 75-90 yrs ago and yes some did happen within a few yrs of each other. Many records still untouched.
