One should be able to get the same price for canola as this time last year if not higher. We need a US of A ag program

You have no clue do you
Wow, you lost a buck. Is it really that hard to believe the price will go up or down by 10%? Thanks for posting the facts AlbertaFarmer, at least there is one other person who sees this as a business, not an entitlement.

If over the last few years of exceptional prices and yields you haven't been paying off debt and lowering your cost of production, how do you expect to survive coming into a potentially extremely lean cycle? Like the oil industry, did you expect the curve only to head straight up?

        Why? This isn't supply management.

I got $13 for canola in 83 , cost us $90/ac to grow
Now it costs us $400/ac , yea its all good and $10 now is worth what $3 was then
Can tell which side of the parasitic feeding you are on
Some leaches have no idea , driving their new company truck with all expenses paid
Make no mistake the party is over , and everyone knows they cant expect the farmer to tighten his belt anymore for fear of killing him
So guess what , the belt tightening is gonna be in the leach section this time
          Enjoy

Wait till other countries really start coming on line and producing. The pain is only just beginning, you're going to have to figure it out one way or another.

Really, you can tell which side I'm on? It's good to be on the reality of business side today, not wishing its 1983

Couldnt care less. Wont have to do this much longer . Anyone that thinks prices should be less than 83 is delusional. Good luck to you though

How does what we think the price should be actually allow us to set the price? Why not then just set the price to 15$ a bushel? Don't you think that maybe that is the delusional part?

Price probably should be that , for the risk and work incurred , not sure how that is delusional
But if iwas a parasite living off of farmers , i would be very , very worried for whats coming

Oddly enough thats how most other businesses are allowed to operate. They have more control in setting their price of their products. Not absolute control but more control.

The wrong points are being argued about. The problem is "why" the prices are where they're at now, that is the problem here.

Guys WD is right, although a little coarse in his opinion. I bet dollars to donuts china isn't coming back to thus market like they have been. The numbers don't support it from their hog problems to slowing economy to potentially new exclusive deal with trump. Add in the threat mentioned from much lower 3rd world production costs and our system will need a radical overhaul. Our COP has to come down. There is no way to out yield or out grocery this problem or spread costs over a larger land base.
