    Richardson - Canola - 2019 ?

Should farmers be giving consideration from whom they purchase their canola seed from, for this spring?

Perhaps Richardson is not the place to go this year.

What about Production contracts with Richardson, and deferred delivery contracts with Richardson?

This year, will companies be more app to contract growers who have purchased seed through themselves rather than Richardson?

How crazy could things get this summer/fall? Remembering the election isn't till Oct 21st.

For all the panic and end of the world talk, March prices at my local Richardson only dropped 11 cents yesterday. I would have expected them to go No-Bid as bad as this sounds. Futures were green most of the night and early AM.

Thats because your checkoff dollars are hard at work......Opening new markets. Freeland comes from a canola farm so shes on top of it.

Richardson operates two canola crushers so will be able to move canola and there are other markets than China. Mind you China is 25% of the market volume so this is going to hurt. A lot of the decreased Chinese demand is priced in already. China will be buying less canola in the future since their economy is now shrinking, like most of the rest of the world, and the whole Meng deal is just a side show.

I am not going to quit growing it but it looks like it might be trucked south instead of west.

Its not a question of where it goes, there are other markets, its a question of what its sold for. A 25% reduction in market with the same acres going in and the carryout is a couple buck drop from here. With seed and nitrogren higher this year, this crop is a no go now for profit. With clubroot risks, its not the best crop to keep in just for rotation now.

We cant get flatfooted here. This may not be a temporary thing.

I need an e-mail address for the Chinese official that banned our Canadian canola.

Since the apology is not forthcoming from our government, maybe the primary producers/primary sacrifices should peoplekind up for our dear leader.

Has anyone seen an official letter or name of who actual complaint came from?

I don't know about other areas but the my local Richardson elevator hasn't had a competitive bid on canola since November anyway.

Pretty early to panic yet, stick to the rotation that works in your area. Soon as everyone jumps ship to a replacement crop its just gonna devalue it anyway.
