Hey...that open market is working well in Germany too????

Germany announced drought assistance up to 340 million euros .....So the open market gets distorted again and the farm gets to compete with the german and US treasuries now....

Price of wheat should be moving higher with the european news of reduced crops but no such luck.

The five major trading areas having crop issues and the open market being suppressed by ad hoc payments but the Canadian farmer stands proud at going it alone....

Thanks to all the farm groups standing up for canadian primary producers when talking to politicians....not.

Lets sell our herd and get a tax deferral ...brilliant.

Lets store two years worth of lentils instead of creating an aid package for starving nations....check.

But the best answer to this thread is that after paying people through checkoffs .....bucket should get involved....politicians tell me to **** off or quit calling....and the newbies won't enter into a conversation about policy....

EU spends about 60 billion a year on subsides. 340 million is another drop in the “bucket”

So to get a true value of grain shouldn't the subsidies be added onto reported world price?

Isn't wheat price based on reduced supply from drought? How does subsidy affect world wheat price - at least in the short term?

I too find it hard to believe the price is depressed by an after the fact handout.

on the other hand , price and yield guarantees , can lead to overproduction

          which leads to lower prices
