Harvest Weather

We were set up for anouther relatively early wheat harvest here with zero rain in the first 2/3 August.. but second growth showed up , then smoke delayed that maturity, now of course rain decides to show up lol. That pushed wheat harvest back a good two weeks or more now.
The little wheat taken off here is all over the map in terms of quality. Time will tell now how it all turns out. Weather going forward will be a big determination on quality . Good for swathing canola tho 👍

What is the quality issues?

I've seen nothing but #1 except for the guys that are taking off with too many grass green or desiccating too early (DRK IMM) and a few with ergot.

Good to hear 👍👍. It’s not often that comes together for guys . Glad you got most in the bin . Good feeling in August.

The moisture proof stuff, canola and flax, is still out. Like I said, "moisture proof...not wind proof". Its not over til its over...

Uncured grain needs extra attention. Keep an eye on the bins, run fans or turn it later. Putting hot tough grain in a bin will need extra attention. Ours got real dry(12.5-13) but some grain in the swaths in the low spots isn't completely cured.

It sure is nice having a quality wheat crop second year in a row, it makes selling it so much easier. #1, dry, heavy, good Px(and not so astronomically high that I won't get paid for all of it). Can barely find a fusarium kernel.

Edit in...and respectible volume, good dirt had better results than the low class Ghetto soil.

Lite mist most of the day yesterday capped off by a decent rain last night . About 3/10 or so. Will be interesting to see if it helps fill the soybeans.

Now where is that premium we should be getting for steel desiccated wheat. I will sign a declaration. They made us pay for a Triffid test in flax. They took value when they could measure and find fusarium/DON in cereals in "PPM"....everyone is willing apply a discount but not GIVE a premium.

You can work that out with your buyer. It's in the basis! :-)

September can be a "seasonal transition" month, summer to fall, which can make harvest tricky. August always seemed to me to be typically hot and dry. But then there's always October...

Every harvest season delivers a different set of weather conditions.
