He could have had a NAFTA deal more than a year ago if he would have dropped the mexicans and his silly gender trade agenda which China threw him out of the country for.

To placate trump, all he needed to do was buy 20B more american goods. We could have bought military hardware. Never should a weak leader like Trudeau go up against an alpha like Trump.

Since when has China been part of NAFTA? As for Trudeau signing NAFTA, the Canadians have been working hard to get the deal done, in fact Rona Ambrose and James Moore who were part of Closet Boy's cabinet are on the team. Trump is the one keeping NAFTA from getting done.

I sense Big Wheels touched a nerve when he called Harper a big loser!

As for your comment on Canada buying "20B" more American goods' from the USA just to make Trump happy, just wondering how much thought your really put into that statement? What happens when Trump demands more next time, we continue to give him what he calls fair and wants?

Trudeau is pushing his namby pamby gender trade agenda everywhere and the chinese tossed his ass when they heard about it. He is lucky trump didnt do the same.

Like I said, a mouse doesnt go against a wolf. We are not on the same level as the americans and we shouldnt act like we are. Our standard of living is directly the result of access to the largest trading nation and economy on the planet. We exist by their graces, so you dont shit where you eat, ever.

20% of our GDP comes from the americans. 2% of their GDP comes from Canada. When the numbers are like that you shut your mouth and make a deal, period. You dont grandstand and act like a fool.

Trump has only asked for even trade numbers, he is not going to ask for the trade to be reversed. He has stated his goals for 2 full yrs yet here we will sit.

But if you need an example of just how weak our positions is, trump should tap the auto sector for a few months. Then we will see how smug and high and mighty we are opposing him.

        If trump the squirrel
Doesn't like what your doing it's probably the right thing that your doing.

Shut the oil off to the USA would end the trade war in a minute.
That’s so funny, so typical of a Liberal, blame Harper for everything that goes wrong. And with these Liberals everything is going wrong.
        But, but Harper!

Well Trudeau comes across as an arrogant, entitlement, sanctamonus ass with Trump when they appear together. Body language says a lot. It’s like Trump is a clown to Trudeau and Trudeau is a dumb kid to Trump.

After watching Trump for 3 years, I think he is a very easy man to figure out. He thinks in simple terms, is direct and impatient. He is totally opposite of most politicians who put no value on time. I think Trump is very shallow and could easily be influenced with praise and adulation on how great he is.

What we need in our PM and what Trudeau is not....is a great salesman. Trump in NAFTA is the customer and the customer is always right to a good salesman.

We should never have allowed Canada to get to the point of a trade war with USA. They are huge and they are our customer. We need them and they benefit from us just as well as the numbers bare out, but no offence....Americans are stupid when it comes to Canada. They don’t hardly know we are their neighbour let alone the benefits of trading together.

So it seems pretty simple. We are dealing with a not so smart President, a not so smart population and a Country that we can get a lot of benefits from.

Shouldn’t we be smooshing Trump, the PM calling him to tell him how great he is, planning some golf dates, holding pressors and making the customer look good. Trump would love the attention and would be putty in Canada’s hand. Trudeau if he was a salesman could fake a lovely relationship that on the surface appears to be genuine to the benefit of both countries. Heck he is in drama....surely he can act the part.

No. The USA could be eating out of Canada’s hand today rather than calling out a little dairy tarriff we have and saying we are a security threat. Canada’s tarriff response just hurt us and is hardly noticed in the USA.

Trump is looking for attention and wants to look tough to his base.

In the USA most politicians are successful people who are patriots and view public service as giving back to their country. In Canada, most of our poiticians are failures at what they have been doing or mediocre at best and view the position as a promotion and certainly a retirement plan. Sorry for being so hard on our politicians...but just look around at what we have and the majority are doing it for themselves.

Trump is Canada’s opportunity of a lifetime President. Easy to read as a book and simple to deal with and not that bright.

If Canada was smart, we would give Trump his win wrapped up in a good deal for Canada and they wouldn’t even know it.

Trudeau needs to turn off CBC News and watch Fox News and see if he can figure it out or better yet...step down and get a real Canadian Patriot to clean up the mess.

Mulroney was also an adviser to Trudeau on Nafta.

But it's all Trudeau fault. Hahaha

Trump lies and tweets and you guys believe him?

Did you guys get a head start on October 17th and smoke too much weed?

Rex Tillerson had it correct when he called Trump an F...ing moron.

Hey but apparently it doesn't seem to matter what the senile man child does.

Hell Trump might as well invite Putin and Kim Jong Un over for some golf and a sleepover!

Putin was on the list untill a few sane people intervened. Not a great match to let a former KGB operative take on TV host who got rich with daddy's money and Russian money.

            Make Russia great again!

If Trump works his way down the list of things to attack from Canada, I think he will get Trudeau to say mercy if he goes after autos at 25%. A month of that and all auto factories in Canada would be closed. I agree in making Canada smug-free. Lots of Maritimers and BCer's vote Liberal. Maybe time for a tariff on seafood?

Yep to get a deal done now is going to take a major act on Canada’s part. When Freeland spends all her time with government officials that are against Trumps trade policy....I mean really how stupid is she. I saw her on Bill Maher on HBO a few years ago and I can hardly believe she would be given a ministerial position of this importantance....she is totally inept.

I would say the dairy sector is screwed in Canada....taxpayer better get ready for a big bailout to pay for the grossly overpriced quota. If not Trudeau is done in Ontario and Queezbeck...or the auto sector will be totally screwed too.

Simon Reisman was an awesome negotiator in 1986 when he negotiated the first FTA. Canada really did get the best of USA for years....when Trump started campaigning and talked about everyone screwing the US with trade deals.....my first thought is “oh shit” this party is going to end for Canada if he gets in...and here we are.

Very well said, very accurate assessment of both people and both economies.

Unfortunately, typical Trudeau's supporters are so anti-Trump, anti-American, anti-capitalism and economically illiterate, that if Trudeau were to make any pro Trump gestures, it would be political suicide for the Liberals. So it seems destined that they will throw Canada's long term economic prospects off the proverbial cliff to save their political careers in the short term. They will continue to do anything possible to Alienate Trump since it plays so well to their base, rather than hold their nose and do the right thing as you suggest.
