So happy that a redrawing of riding boundaries earlier this year eliminated a lot of the welfare bums and Indians from my riding and resulted in the outcome that people have wanted for 40 years - a seat at the table that counts, and represents this area - PC. No longer looked down upon as one of the welfare scum Orange/Red Northern ridings. Not like the rest of Northern Ontario.

Now we get to see if Doug Ford has the balls to administer the medicine the sick puppy known as Canuckistan needs to survive. Public sector layoffs the first order of business. Next calling for immigration reform with a view to reducing migrants. Free trade within Canada. Getting rid of Supply Management, green energy scams and other forms of crony capitalist rent seeking activity. And so on and so on.

Let's just hope he keeps the people of Ontario happy until the next federal election in 2019 and maybe we might have a chance of dumping Trudeau. If he makes a mess under the banner of PC you better get used to what we got right now.

Hopefully Doug is smarter than Rob who smoked a lot of crack with some of his supporters and let them broadcast it to the world.

If any of his sister in law's allegations are true, Ontarians may have just elected an incompetent businessman with no obvious business plan for Ontario, who is stealing from his late brother's family.

Doug is keen on opening up the legal marijuana market to more private sellers. With all his alleged youthful experience selling, he may see an opportunity to get back in.

But all that doesn't matter, the electorate made their choice.

Isn't that just a bugger - Ontario elected as premier someone who said that he will bring change - in spite of his obvious faults.

And Canada elected as Prime Minister someone who said all the right things, proclaims himself to be a feminist, yet the news story of the day is accounts of him "grabbing them right by..."

Way to go chucky boy! You have an amazing ability to expose the truth! LOL!

It was time the Wynne Liberals were done after 15 years. No surprises there.

But you know politics has changed when the "family values" republicans still support alleged pedophiles like Judge Roy Moore and die hard "family values" Conservatives support the Ford family with their connections to drug addictions and the under world.

Its kind of hard to argue to get tough on crime and drug addicts when your own brother turned out to be one. Hopefully Doug turns out to be more free of the family skeletons in the closet, otherwise his time in office will be a challenge.

And Liberal's elect a dope smoker for PM and Democrats elect a dope smoker and coke user for President!
You don't know Justin and some of his highschool friends are going to profit handsomely from the legalization of pot? grow up chucky.
It's about moving from the Greatest Generation to Baby Boomers, and sooner than I'd like millennials. Hope though, Generation Z sounds like they've had enough of this PoliticallyCorrect BS that society has had to endure over the last 10 years.
Remember when B. Hussian Obama was against gay marriage?

Politics has indeed changed. Hypocrites, raving lunatics, criminals, and shifty shitheads lurk everywhere under every party color and banner...

Come to think of it, hypocrites, raving lunatics, criminals, and shifty shitheads were always present. The politicians are much unchanged. Its politics that's changed. Same players... different game... and remember, the game is for our amusement. Perhaps this is exactly the way we like it.

Policy debates, long term plans and vision? Why waste the time. What gets people fired up are the shifty shitheads the other team has playing the game. My teams shifty shitheads? Why focus on them? I mean come on, obviously the other teams shifty shitheads are shiftier!

The better question should be why does politics attract the scum of the earth, or why do respectable responsible capable people avoid it like the plague. Why did voters have to choose the least worst of the rotten apples in the Ontario election, or the US presidential election instead of the best of the best.

Calling all politicians scum is an unfortunate choice of words. Why would anyone go into politics to receive the kind of abuse that is handed out?

There are lots of politicians with integrity who are working hard for what they believe in. Politicians are often just like the electorate they represent. Some are totally obsessed with their own self interests and are incapable of compromise or understanding.

If we want to blame anyone, citizens should blame themselves for allowing the level of political discussion to decline to name calling. We are all guilty, some more than others.

But just try and have an in depth discussion on issues with the average voter. Most of us don't have the time or interest to look at an issue from all sides and come up with an informed opinion or solutions. It is far easier to just to sling mud. Having a fact based discussion is impossible when citizens don't agree on the facts or prefer to form their opinions in a bubble without the facts.

The long and short of it, democracy requires citizens to be well informed from a broad range of perspectives and engaged. I think we are headed other direction as people retreat into the echo chamber of websites and social media, and like minded sources of "news" (opinion) that reinforce shallow and emotional responses to complex issues.

                          Uninformed people are easily manipulated.

CHuck, we agree on all points. (Except I didn't call all politicians scum, just that they are disproportionately attracted to politics, and typically rise to the top).

As for well informed citizens, I think the easiest start to making democracy work is to have every voter have to answer some simple skill testing questions about the policies of candidate they wish to vote for, right on the same ballot( or electronically). If they don't get say 2 out of 3 correct, their vote is null and void. That way, if I am voting for the person with the best hair, or who promised to legalize pot but I know nothing else about their actual positions and policies, my vote likely won't count, and if I do take the time to do the research so my vote actually counts, I may or may not discover that the rest of this candidates policies run counter to my own values.

Simple questions (but random, common to all candidates) such as Does this candidate support balanced budgets? It would force candidates to take strong positions on issues, if they waffle, or are non-committal, they risk votes not counting. If voters are simply voting against another candidate, or along idealogical lines, without any research, their votes likely won't count.

Personally, I would not take the job, knowing the **** and abuse that will be dished out from all directions, especially for the meagre pay compared to any other high profile managerial position.

It becomes a chicken or the egg situation. The more we dish out, the more we dissuade, honest competent people from getting into politics, the more bad apples that get into politics, the more cause we have to pick them apart, which demotivates even more honest people from entering. We have selected for the worst of the worst. Much like we are doing with chemical resistant pests.

One day when I have more time I'll start a post with some thoughts of how to make democracy accountable and effective, and attract the right type of people.

Looks like Ontario is moving ahead to kill the carbon tax that the pair of ripoff artists Wynne/Trudeau wanted.

                              RIP carbon tax.

And High Priestess Climate Barbie says that Canadians are behind her plan to clean up the environment and stop this "pollution".

Their gig is likely over, but they will fight and spend billions from the public purse to protect their baseless ideology.
