Part of it is centred in the desert SW but note also the more severe longterm hydrological drought in the western Dakotas and eastern Montana - and reaching up into Saskatchewan. That's the big danger for those of us in the southern prairies.

Yup your right , droughts tend to start from those dry areas and move outward .
Hopefully they get some of the anticipated rains on the north side of that area.
Fire danger sounds terrible in that area again today .
