It's terribe to get money to pay bills when something unforeseeable happens. ...

CP and CN are guaranteed profits moving grain and they don't have to do their job.....and now union is talking about a strike....

Everyone makes a shit load of money off farmers ....I don't think a direct payment would stay in my account very long....that's the point. ...

Why are you blaming our government for the US trade war with the China the worlds largest trading nation?

      https://www.bloomberg.com/graphics/2016-us-vs-china-economy/

So its Trudeau's fault that Trump is anti free trade and that China has become the worlds manufacturer? Consumers are in love with cheap Chinese products.

India put tariffs on pulse crops for their own internal political reasons. What about farmers support of support of supply management in this country? No government wants to give this up.

Do you really think Harper would have started cutting cheques to farmers because of a trade war?

I am not sure how you turn back the clock on low cost manufacturing and trade that has moved millions of jobs to Mexico, China etc? US GDP and wages are much higher.

What business wants to move their manufacturing back to a higher cost country and make less profit?

Are you guys in favour of an all out trade war? Because it seems like you support Trump no matter what he does even if it affects our markets.

You make a good point bucket, Ag Stab, how would it respond to the pulse price crash. As a whole farm program, how can it respond to the price decline, for last year's production, when we are on the verge of entering the next year's stabalization year, throw in cattle and it probably reduces those chances even more.

Did crop insurance adjust the base price option of coverage for red lentils?

What if CP workers go out on strike?

What if every country only uses there own food?

What if countries quit buying guns and feeds it's people?

What if Trudeau supported Canadian farmers instead of third world dictators?

Chuck wow I'm not talking about Trump because the American gov will protect its farmers.

I'm talking about a useless piece of skin we call a PM that has done nothing for the rail problems oil problems and India trade problems.

He is to busy flying around drinking smoking and enjoying dressing up like a real Leader.

            Enough is enough.

We live in a country where farmers are nothing but a useless part of the economy that a lot of the economy needs to become rich.

            That's reality.

China is the world's largest exporting nation not the world's largest trading nation. First we tariff India over the pulse tariff and then we tariff China over the long standing canola tariff. The US did not start the trade war, only responded to it. Here in Canuckistan we do nothing as most Canucki's are Chicom sympathizers and want to be a Chinese vassal state. Pretty much are already.

Yes we know you hate Trudeau. Politicians come and go.

But most farmers believe in the free market that allows the market to determine the cost of inputs, land and commodity prices.

We know that the big grain traders, the seed and chemical suppliers, the machinery suppliers and the railways are all acting in their own self interest. But that is how capitalism is supposed to work. Their job is to extract as much profit from you as possible.

Do you want the state to takeover or do you believe in free markets?

As far as I can see most farmers want free markets except when it bites them in the ass.

You need to decide what you want and stop blaming the system you support.

The free market has not existed for so long it would not likely be recognizable if it showed up. If we allow tariff free access to our market we are going to need trading partners like China and India to do the same.

China and India are acting in their own self interest just as most countries do. We certainly do it on supply management.

Many of the free trade agreements we have have been about giving up control of our economy to the corporate world.

But as Trump will find out having the best trading relationship possible is good for everybody.

But don't count on Trump to understand much, he lies and spreads misinformation about trade with Canada all the time. How often has the US used tariffs and other trade distorting subsidy programs to their own advantage? Lots.

They don't want an independent dispute mechanism in the new NAFTA. Why? Because then they cant be held responsible and then they can make their own rules.

As an individual farmer you can't compete against amother nation's treasury....no matter how many acres you farm.....a North Dakota farmer is currently guaranteed 12.60cdn for canola.....that's 50 bucks an acre more than in Canada. ....

Think about the economics of that....
