DOT sits at that intersection a lot... Most of those rolling thru are big trucks and there's a lot of traffic. Carrot river lumber mill / peat plant, Cargil, and bunge has the dehy plant across the road for canola storage.
A lot of the trucks going to the mill and peat plant aren't local... Many aren't even Canadians... The way the highway "looks" most don't think it's a major route north of that intersecrion.
Humboldt is a different place today.
Saddened and everyone is in shock.... It hasn't really sunk in yet.

No. I don't know what happened obviously but if that truck was stopped at the stop sign there's no possible way the carnage that ensued could have ensued. Sitting at the stop sign - stopped - you can look to the south. The trees on the corner have been trimmed back enough to do that. Blowing through at 100 k from the east you can't see - in that sense its blind.Originally posted by sumdumguy View PostThe Leader Post has an aerial view of the crash. It looks like the bus ran into the side of the truck just behind the cab. Is that intersection that blind?
The only thing that puzzles me is how little damage has been done to the Pete. I know they're tough but that seems extreme. Regardless - if the truck was stopped in broad daylight at a level crossing this doesn't happen.

I have stopped at that corner hundreds of times going west with a loaded semi and if you stop at the stop sign you can see clearly both north and south.

Coming to a full stop and waiting just seconds is enough time for vehicles to come out of your blind spots.Originally posted by macdon02 View PostJust saying Bob... but if there's a vehicle behind your mirror.... you're not gonna see it
I drive a passenger vehicle with horrible blind spots created by wide windshield pillars combined with big side view mirrors, it takes extra care and attention driving that SUV.
Coming to a complete stop eliminates the possibility of a vehicle being in that blind spot and not noticing it before its too late.
Such sad circumstances....take care out there.
This is wide reaching, even a community 25 miles away from here was affected.

Hockey Night in Canada has done an excellent job honoring the entire Bronco Team showing pictures individually of each team member during Coaches corner.
All Canada is saddened.
